Re: TOP SPEED

I saw 160 at brands gp circuit with 1 tooth up on the rear. A front sprocket change usually equates to about a 10% speedo error, so the op's 175 would be around 157 then add 5% std speedo error and you get about 149mph true speed. My approx speed at brands would work out at around 147 true, It might...

Re: Hein Gericke Closing down sale!

Changed my opinion a bit on HG  went in today to get my daughter some new boots, found a pair that suited, went to pay and offered them a £10 voucher (with the payment) that i'd received a few months ago whilst making another purchase. Woman in the shop says you can't use that it's not v...

Re: Bottoming out.

Braking for the hairpin at Mallory you'll know all about the forks bottoming out, bumpy on aproach and mega hard braking. Imo stiffer progressive springs won't sort the problem, linear ones will do a better job, I've just got some 0.85 linear springs for mine although not fitted them yet i know they...

Re: Black slippery stuff

Just got 4l of castrol power4t 10w30 for £23.99 from halfords.I have a trade card but the full price is £29.99 Bike oils have specific friction modifiers for wet clutches. It's not quite oil from a hole in the ground there's loads of refining that goes on and mixing molecules, way above what i kno...

Re: Flex

They go on most about chassis flex in motogp it's a big issue to get right due to the lean angles they achieve (which the tyres are designed to do) when that far over the shocks don't work the same and the chassis effectively becomes the shocks.. Thats a simplified answer but gives the general idea....

Re: rear tyre

190's are designed for a 6" wheel, the storm has 5.5" it'll work better with a 180. a 190 will pull in a bit on the rim so won't look much wider if at all and may well lower ride height a little if it's a 50 section.

Re: Anyone got a standard shock for measurements please

Cheers Kev and Amcq, I rang Penske uk today and they said the split spacers/bushes should be 10mm i/d so i'll be ordering some up. don't know why the previous owner of the shock had 12mm i/d spacers and was using the 10mm bolts so the bolts were pushed up in the holes ?. no damage to the shock thoug...

Anyone got a standard shock for measurements please

I've got a Penske shock to fit and the spacers are the wrong size, both top and bottom mounts use a 10mm bolt but the spacers i have with the Penske are 12mm i/d. I'd like to know if there's a sleeve in the top and bottom eyes of the std shock, it'd need to be 1mm thick tube if it's there. Can't tak...

Re: Does hot weather give slippery traction?

I know over the last few days as I've been riding it harder I can feel flex in the bike . First I thought it was the tyres but it's the rear of the bike . I only really feel it under hard acceleration coming out of bends it .might be time to brace the frame at the swing arm Is that comment tongue i...

Re: xv1000

Biggest downside i can see to the xv is the chain drive if you end up doing 120k a year again, other than that i think they're pretty heavy for town work but if it's mostly distance that shouldn't matter much. A test ride will see if you like it. Other options could be BMW R1150rt or the 1200, FJR13...

Re: why are storms so cheap?

Pants suspension doesn't help resale either Oh yeah that aswell, how they let a bike be released with such crap forks and unforgiving shock i'll never know :o TL1000's were supossed to be much faster and gruntier, i've ridden them and i don't think they are, also had a mate with one and on speed an...

Re: why are storms so cheap?

They weren't the most expensive when new, they were built in Spain and don't have the same quality of finish as Jap built bikes. They tend to go a bit cheaper as that era twins are a bit out of fashion now.. build quality is not really any better than a bandit, the same stuff corrodes over winter, i...

Re: What was your bike before the storm?

Last bike before the storm was a BMW R1200s the one with underseat pipes and Ohlins etc, have to say it was a much better bike than a firestorm but had to sell it to help fund my racing. I've had over 70 bikes from a CB50 to GSXR1000's. in the stable at the moment are 2 x Yam XJ600's (pre diversion)...
