Re: New member and owner.

Warning Don't just whip the old tensioners out, you need this : Here (as long as you can use a spanner) is a fool proof guide to fitting manual tensioners, someone wouldn't go to all the trouble of writing this if it wasn't an issue, look how many pages the thread has. http://vtr1000.org/phpBB3/view...

Re: New member and owner.

Have read a lot of posts about cct and iam unsure to be honest only read a couple of posts about failure then posts about dealer mechanics saying they have never had a failure. Not sure if this could be down to a few faulty cct , as this sounds very similar to the yamaha fjr 1300 and the ticking va...

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.

Did you have any problems centralising the rear wheel, I've followed what you did and although the wheel looks central when looked at from behind it doesn't sit equally on either side of the swinging arm, there's a 3mm captive spacer on the left side of the wheel so the wheel can't move any further...

Re: New member and owner.

I do believe the bike was in padgetts for a number of years untill they decided to sell it and believe it or not iam the 8 owner the others obviously did not use it. My son collect the bike and when he road it back he said it was at awful low speed ,so hence the reason for the carb strip down and c...

Re: New member and owner.

Very clean bike, Are you changing the cam chain tensioners while you have it apart ?, It would be a very wise move. Bazza on here dose them. For the brass takeoff contact "Morgan carb tune" online (link below) and they will sell you a pack of 4, they are cheap and then you can pass on or s...

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.

Excellent, thank you very much, mine's the earlier VFR with the 16" and 18" wheels so this conversion should be even more dramatic. Much appreciated. No it won't for the 88/89 they increased fork diameter to 41mm, increased front wheel size to 17" and reduced rear wheel size to 17&qu...

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.

At the front end, were the Firestorm forks shorter than the VFR forks and if so did that make any difference. Yes much shorter but it's easy to get around. the VFR has massive sag on the forks so when you set the storm forks up to say 27mm sag the difference is much less than it initially looked, m...

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.

I've taken the bearing housing down 8mm, the outer part 10mm and the face that the sprocket bolts to 10mm, does that sound about right? Looking at the photos of the sprocket from the back 10mm looks about right. Sounds close, maybe I went 8mm all round, not sure ? but 8mm sounds right for bearing h...

130mm if the forks are standard. 140mm if you have uprated springs.. use 10weight oil. Don’t forget to pump the inner cartridge to empty and then again to refill it.

Re: Drain the fork

Are you serious

No remove the fork legs and do it properly, you need to get the correct amount back in and for that you need the forks off and standing upright any way.
It's not a difficult job and you've already got the wheel off.

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.

Excellent, thanks, and did the sprocket carrier bearing have to be recessed as well No it's machined almost flush with the outer edge of the bearing so there is no dust seal, not really a problem as it's a sealed bearing anyway The spacer that goes inside the sprocket carrier, the one from the insi...

Re: VFR750/Storm crossbreed race bike project.

I know this an old thread but what exactly did you do to the sprocket carrier to make it fit. I'm doing a similar thing but if I cant get it to fit I might have to try a CBR1000FL/M rear wheel. It's machined down where the sprocket bolts, studs removed and replaced by bolts also machined in the cen...

The M/C came with a shorty red lever which is a bit of an eyefull will have to keep me eye out for something else... Yes loads on ebay but the F4i clutch is a cable...So that buggers up buying a pair... Have tried a Storm brake lever, I'm sure I used one on an F4 master cylinder, most 90's H...
