Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Can't afford MOSFET - didn't realise how expensive they were :(
Just ordered a new genuine Honda finned one.

Of course I need a new battery too, else Deauville not going anywhere. Not sure if I really need a new RR, but I don't want to buy a new battery and fry it due to RR being suspect.

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Carl, thanks for that. I've read up on MOSFETs and such and it seems a safe option. Out of interest I've just taken mine off and checked the serial number - there isn't one! All it says is "Tour Max High Performance Equipment" - I googled them and they seem to provide aftermarket parts, bu...

Re: Maybe no VTR then..

Maybe they realised "hey wait a minute, that's a sporty bike".. To be honest, I don't see why it matters so much? I mean, I'm 18. Yeah if it did have that power I'd be more likely to crash it, but isn't it umm.. what's the word.. Restricted? Should be able to say that I'm cutting the powe...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

R/R\s will get very hot. Sounds to me that your are getting right on the borderline of overcharging but still within the boundaries of being allright. The heat is caused from the excess voltage from the generator being thrown (shunted) away. I would keep a close eye on things. (:-}) Carl, if it wer...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

When you have it up and running check the output voltage of the r/r with the engine running and with lights on and off . If its below 12.5v with the lights on it won't be charging enough . And if its above I think 14.5v its over charging . Someone more in the know can check I got that right ! I've ...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Batteries can just die from old age or for no logical reason at all. Or the battery can be taken out by the charging system. I thought you had already changed the battery. :confused (:-}) No, at 12.6v I thought it ok, batteries :whatever Hopefully the battery wasn't killed by the charging system. I...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Sounds like the battery is toast to me. If you are getting that much voltage drop and it's not pulling a fuse, I think the battery is finished. Have you got another one you can try? Pete Pete, I love you and I want you to have my babies :D :D :D I took the battery off my Deauville (known to be good...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

thats weird, just tested as you asked battery voltage with ignition off is 12.74vdc, ignition on only drops to 12.45vdc when i press the starter it drops to 10.6vdc Thanks, James. "...voltage with ignition off is 12.74vdc, ignition on only drops to 12.45vdc..." this is what I would have e...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Have you tried unplugging every thing and testing it by connecting one plug at a time . Also worth removing the tail light bulbs . Have you disconnected the starter motor as this could be draining the amps . - Yes, every connector I can see is now apart, all I've got is a pile of fecking bits! Unpl...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Still no joy, think I need a proper motorcycle electrician. I've unplugged CDI things, no different. A few time flicking the ignition on and off the lights came bright and I hit the starter button and the relay closed. The supply to the starter motor is disconnected, so it won't go far. This happene...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Have you checked the side stand kill switch?? & double check/disconnect & clean all earth bonds. Yes, seems ok, but I'll double check tomorrow to be sure. It's on a paddock stand and I could see the light come on dimly when I lowered the side stand. Tomorrow I'll measure the resistance acro...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

UPDATE: Here's the position, what does anyone make of this? Problem: No electrics, nothing works. Bike going one minute, dead the next. Battery shows 12.5 volts. Work done: Swapped reg/rec for known good one - No change. Pulled ALL connectors (as far as I can see, and I've had the fairing off) - No ...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

when you check the battery voltage, what is the battery voltage under load ie push the starter button does the voltage drop ?, i think you will still get dash lights without the cdi boxes attached, but ill check that tomorrow to confirm that. Thanks, I'm going to check this later today. I need to bu...

Re: Dead Bike Recovered by AA

Sadly, I've taken the reg/rec off my Deauville (same beastie) and that made no difference. I've now stripped the bike to get to every single connector and checked for problems. All look ok. Bike looks a mess. I've stripped the kill switch and cleaned the contacts. When you turn on the ignition, the ...
