Re: Racing in New England

This is the production twins class. Back in 97 when I did race school on my cbr600, they were what the instructors rode. (kawi ninja500s). I was a crazy fast street rider, but those guys rode around me on the outside waving with one hand. I wanted to be those guys. So I got a 500, put a shock on &am...

Re: speedometer/tacho/temp.

Yeah, but be aware, mirrors allow your eyes to remain focused into the distance. The camera is a total refocus on a 2d screen close up. Maybe 10-15 times longer than a speedo look. Not sure what environment you ride in but with no bumpers, you are only surrounded by awareness. Like I said, I wouldnt...

Re: speedometer/tacho/temp.

The koso guages are readily available. The one in the vid is direct from China and not as refined as the real koso, but from the same factory. I also have a voltage guage on the "dash" as well as an ambient temp guage since I ride year round & want ice alerts. Look on ebay for the koso...

Re: side stand?

If anything it should tilt too much. And yes, sprint out and add the spacer, makes it handle like a 600. Then you will have a whole slew of stand-too-short issues. A cbr1000 stand or ghetto method like this http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t399/smokinjoe73/sidestand012.jpg Figure an hour of drill...

Re: crash bungs

I would put the cost of all the destroyed fairing, radiators, handlebars and shiftgear on one side of the scale, and the cheap cost of sliders on the other. You can pay me now, or pay me later. I chose now. Fairings arent cheap and I rode the bike away from the highside. 13yrs racing & sliders h...

Re: crash bungs

I use t-rex frame sliders (colony speak). The ones of an f4i are way more plentiful and fit fine but you need to go get different bolts. I paid 24 US dollars. I got the extended ones but surprisingly, even the short ones saved the bike in a crash. I also put a set of sliders by the passanger pegs to...

Re: Rear sprocket teeth

Most all stock bikes come with way too high gearing based on noise requirements measured at @55mph. To meet that they gear them way up to lower rpms. Lower gearing will get you more thrust and acceleration. Yeah more loopy in first but you will also spend way less time in first. If you can do 60mph ...

Re: speedometer/tacho/temp.

I have swapped to a koso brand dash, then to a cbr600rr dash. It is NOT easy and not for the faint of heart but having a big digital speedo and gas guage on my 98 feels like a new bike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipAw0urigUM gratuitous on track vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJrlGT4Cw38 KOSO...

Re: indicator integrated mirrors

Oh yeah, if any of you blokes are gonna do the gixer ones, get the copies (emgo are good) but be sure they are the folding ones. Some ultra cheap ones ($26 US/pair) dont really fold in and you will regret that purchase really quickly I promise.

Just for your own FYI

Re: lloydiecbr's dyno chats and setting for kermit.

Lloydie, good info but I am having trouble translating, is the last one where you list the mods what you believe to be optimum? Is it possible to write it out, like, 1st run; stock this & that, modded this & that; 1xx hp, 6x torque How do you think rideability has changed. I find peak hp usu...

Re: indicator integrated mirrors

So to adapt the mount, I just cut angled steel to size, put it in a vise, hit it with a hammer to bend it to the right(correct not 90*) angle, then painted them. Wires go right thru a hole on the bracket and I even wired them as running and turn sigs. Everyone got out of my way in the City. (feel li...

Re: Airbox modding

Hey mik, what is the goal of all this airbox tomfoolery? Sorry if I missed it but what are you going for?

And yeah, what about those goldwings and vfrs that have fans that fight the natural airflow direction and cause overheating? What were Honda thinking then?
