Re: How would you describe the song of a dying CCT?

I could be completely off on this, but from reading all of the different failure cases, this seems to be the best explanation for me. ;) I'll take your anecdotal evidence into account as I continually build my story about how the world works! Still wouldn't chance waiting for a loose or dying noise...

Re: Battery

They're pretty awesome products... Lithium batteries tend to be avoided b/c of the cost and aversion to some formulas tending to burn or explode, but: LiFePo4 (Lithium Phosphate) are: >Lighter than lead acid >Discharge faster than lead acid, and are able to discharge a much higher percentage of thei...

Re: Battery

Get a battery with LiFePo4 cells and never have to worry about trickle charging again :) and save yourself about 6 lbs... or half a kilo or .07 stones or whatever you guys use (ducks maybe?)

Re: How would you describe the song of a dying CCT?

We all know VTR CCT's have catastrophic failure, but can I point out that on many other bikes, the first sign of a cct going is a rattly chain caused by the spring going weak. this CAN happen on a storm, in fact when I got my storm it had an original cct that was doing exactly that. Changed to manu...

Re: How would you describe the song of a dying CCT?

when mine went it did,nt really leave me in much doubt that some thing was badly wrong. I don't think there is any "nearly" failed or failing noises? I was lucky that it went at tickover -ish whilst at standstill and did no damage to the valves. you are a plonker though Rodney . I have re...

Re: Jesus look a like

Very true. Treats badly was probably the wrong term whne considering what goes on in other parts of the world. But there's something about the way he talks about them I dislike. The crudeness maybe. I won't disagree with ya on that one! This guy holds a particular interest to me for some reason. I ...

Re: My bike sounds like a.....

Depending on how much the header is leaking, you can burn up your exhaust valves if you ride on them for too long.

This piece of knowledge was learned from experience :)

+1 on nailing that interview(and most political discussions I've seen him on the youtube as well) I don't even necessarily think he treats women poorly either... he's one to sleep around, no doubt (and definitely not my style), but seems to have a very humanistic way of approaching that particular l...

Re: Cannot line up timing marks after front CCT failure

None of this should be an issue as you said, tony, because when actually setting the timing you are not concerned with rotation, just lining the marks up. Matty's description is making this slightly confusing... But in theory, if you were to skip one tooth on the bottom, you would have to rotate the...

Re: Cannot line up timing marks after front CCT failure

Ah I see what you mean... but I still think that as long as you're on the FT mark at the flywheel, then it won't matter. You're saying that if it were to slip one tooth at the bottom, then the top would be 1/2 tooth off (makes sense). But when lining it up, you can only mess this up if the crank is ...

Re: Cannot line up timing marks after front CCT failure

Anyway, is it possible for the chain to slip on the crank or is that not possible with the bottom half built up? The rest made perfect sense, but the chain could slip 10 teeth and not matter in this case (which it is indeed possible with the bottom build up) The chain isn't lined up to anything on ...

Re: Cannot line up timing marks after front CCT failure

I would say that yes, you are being overly cautious. If it is obvious that one is closer than the other, then the closer one is your timing. The whole system has just a little bit of slop in it (CCT slack, etc.) and won't be perfect. If you were to look at the rear head it will be just a touch off a...
