Re: CCT Failure
A cct failure can only happen on one cylinder. It would be a bizarre coincidence that they went at the same time. Tony..what I meant in my post was, could the engine have been running on one cylinder or would it be jumping all over the place, I seem to remember it running ok and responded to an inp...

Re: CCT Failure
Taken the cams out, turned crank to line up with FT mark, put cams back in as they should go, facing out and FE/FI marks in line with top of head.
Now to do a valve check.

Re: CCT Failure
Ok thanks for the info tony.mon
The rear is fine, it's timed and the old tensioner is still in there but in full working order.
So the removing the cams is the best/only way to get them lined up with the top of the head?

Re: CCT Failure
OK so it was the chain climbing over the sprocket, cam cover off and I could see and hear it as I turned the crank anti-clockwise...bummer. So I need to reset the timing on the front. Forum search! I suppose when I said the engine was still running when this happened it might have just been on one c...

Re: CCT Failure
The fairing is off so I just need to lower the oil cooler..thanks for the help there. The noise I heard was more of a rattle..like a chain rubbing on some casting that it shouldn't be, fairly sure it wasn't the chain climbing over the cam sprockets. I hope so anyway. I'll have a go tonight and see w...

Re: CCT Failure
HELP PLEASE.. So the rear timing is fine, I was hoping to not have to remove the entire front end and just turn the engine 415degrees so the front will be set for the new tensioner but do you think it would be best to remove the fairing etc so I can get the front cam cover off and make sure the timi...

Re: CCT Failure
Thanks for reminding me about that. I like the idea of using the starter motor rather than carb refit. Just come back to get a camera so things go back together as they should.
I am lucky enough to own a Ducati 1000SS DS as well as the Firestorm, took it out for a blast this morning, fantastic.

Re: CCT Failure
Ok but do I need to run the engine or is it just a case of fitting them, locking them off, measuring etc and doing the stopper mod?
I want to keep the OEM tensioners rather than converting to manual's or converting them to manuals as I think I like the idea of some dynamic movement going on in there.

Re: CCT Failure
yeah that makes sense, to be honest If that's the case I'll probably not bother with the stopper mod, I mean the originals have lasted 16years, I doubt I'll even last that long!

Re: CCT Failure
Been looking for OEM tensioners and CMSNL.com seems to be the best price at €48each. Ordered 2 today and I'll do the "stopper mod" on them.

Re: CCT Failure
Thanks guys...I think the engine is OK as it was still running without any funny misfires etc. I'm going to start the strip down this weekend. At a guess I would say it was the front.

CCT Failure
So I have been looking into doing a CCT stopper mod on my bike as it runs like a good un and I love the bike so why take the risk? Yesterday I received the little tool to lock off the CCT's and I was going to buy a pair of new CCT's and do the "stopper mod" this weekend..I personally think...
