Clutch Problem

When riding my Firestorm and going through the gears the clutch lever comes half way in to the handlebar before I feel any pressure. I feel it is only just disengaging enough to make smooth gear changes. I feel it is only going to get worse. Suggestions as to the issue. Is it just air in the system ...

Re: How to Remove Battery from VTR1000F3

You could be correct Bassa. There is definitely no room around the sides of the battery. I am thinking I might need to make up a couple of metal straps with 90 deg ends on them to screw on to the terminals to get a decent grip on it to reef it out because it is certainly in there tight. Of course th...

How to Remove Battery from VTR1000F3

I am unable to remove the battery from my '03 Firestorm. I don't know whether all Firestorm batteries are fitted the same way or not, but mine fits on an angle sliding in towards the front of the bike. After folding the plastic lid back I cannot get the battery to budge. Is there anything else I nee...

I'm recommissioning a '98 (red one - you know, the fast ones)

Muchos thankos. Paul.
I don't think it would be too fast in that condition.

Keep at it - persistence will get you there. Plenty of carb cleaner and compressed air.

Re: Tyre Pressures

Like Hawk I run 36F 42R and find it suits me the best. Drops into corners really well, holds the correct line without any movement coming out the other side where I ought to be (not too close to centre line or shoulder of the tar). I am running Michelin PP3s. Slightly off topic; some of you know I h...

Re: gear issue.

I see two options here. Option 1: Take the motor back to the wrecker and exchange it for a good one and this time ask him what the mileage was of the bike it comes out of. He should know this. If he says he doesn't know then it's a high mileage bike. Option 2: Split the crankcases. It's not that har...

I can give you one piece of advice. Bristol is not that far from Bideford. A nice morning ride and back.

Re: best oil for a storm!!!!

Are you sure you have mineral oil ?, it's not that easy to come by now and often quite expensive. Even the base oils are synthetic based these days. Anyway to answer the question there will be no problems changing from one to the other. Use 10/40 grade oil. . Well this is the oil I have been using ...

Re: best oil for a storm!!!!

Is there any big deal swapping from mineral oil to semi-synthetic. Just drain, refill with semi synthetic and new oil filter. Or is it more involved than that? And what mileage should the semi synthetic be changed at?

Thanks

Re: Rear of Tank Attachment

There are a couple of photo's showing (one only) in the link below of what the top hat rubber tank mounts look like. They are similar to your metal one, only made of rubber :) Enlarge the pictures for a better view:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-VTR-1000-FIRESTORM-1997-PETROL-FUEL-TANK-MOUNTING-...

Re: Rear of Tank Attachment

I think that size of top hat would be used at one of the mounts for the front of the tail cowling. The top hats on the rear cowling take a 6mm bolt. The one pictured above that I took out of the rear mounting takes an 8mm bolt. Because it takes so long to get parts here in Australia I decided to ma...
