Re: Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Hi, For the high speed runs I wind it up to the required speed/revs & hold it for around 5/10 seconds then cut the engine clutch in & free wheel to a planned parking area on the dual carriageway. Remove the front plug (Fairing & tank removal for the rear one....) & pop in a fresh one...

Re: Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Hi, I am quite impressed with the running, but I suppose I will have to do some plug chopping to see if what my ass is telling me & what is really going on are the same. These iridium plugs are a pain to read as the ceramic is quite long & the main body of the plug is shrouded like inside of...

Re: Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Hi, Are you sure? I am lead to believe that they improve the air flow & so makes it run leaner. The engine sounds more gruff, it's not the intake roar because I can't here it through the sound proofing (baglux cover & bag full of waterproofs). The engine firing over just sounds louder, nasti...

Re: Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Hi, Just been on the bike (another test ride) to the local bike club meet at the Anglesey circuit. Waste of time, blowing a gale & the low fuel light came on half way there...... Still impressive though, I am thinking that it might of been running a little rich before hand & this mod has sor...

Re: Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Hi, Quick update on the Stack mod. Firstly, I stole a rolling pin from the kitchen & removed the handles, this left me with a perfect diameter tool that fitted into the aluminium trumpet. It only went down half way, then with a slight tap it was held firmly enough to work on as aluminium gets ve...

Re: Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Hi Tony, All fixed. I had a good read of your work on the modded stacks & am quite looking forward to having a go with the Ducati items. You have got my alarm bells going with the height issue though, that never occurred to me. Like I mentioned above, this project is still in the resourcing all ...

How well did the SP1 modification work? Also how did those beautiful fibreglass stacks work out?

Re: Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Hi Carl, There are some Velocity stacks made from the same Moriwaki CAD dimensions on the US eBay. eBay item number: 121451472377 I Mailed the guy & asked if they were the same as the ones Dr Honda had made for some members on the US Superhawk forum & he agreed! I know that my above mod will...

Ducati 916 trumpets on VTR 1000 carbs

Right then, I have been reading up lots on velocity stacks! Long & short, big & small, different edge radius for the mouth section etc. There are many variations & more specifically, where the owner/tuner requires the torque & horsepower to be in the rev range. I am not very knowledg...

Re: Camshaft change

Hi Tony, Your right! I have just popped to the shed were I have a spare head, 42 teeth on a cam wheel! looks like 1 tooth = 8.6°....... Any one ever tried this much advance? If so what was it like? Seems like a good way to bend some valves! All I can hope for if the timing wheels are out a few degre...

Re: Camshaft change

Hi, I have also got a clean CBR600fy for the road & for track day's. Parts I have bought for it are; full Arrow high exhaust system, Gilles rearsets, R&G crash bungs, later race fairing from FSi & rear subframe with single seat conversion, Ten Kate clipon's, Stack rev counter & dash,...

Re: Camshaft change

Hi, I was going to go down that road, but the more you read into it there isn't that much difference in the engines. The carbs & camshafts are the biggy, then because of the higher rev's, double valve springs & a lighter flywheel to let it spin it up faster, also the the six speed box & ...

Re: Camshaft change

Hi, Right then, I have been looking & asking about the differences of the VTR & Varadero camshafts, because it looks like these are the only camshafts available to play with, unless you get lucky & find some hot ones or have lots of money to make some. Whilst reading the valve timing spe...

Re: Cylinder head porting?

Hi, Thanks for that Bleh. I have been hunting for the right tools for the porting job & I think I have found them, they are called "cartridge rolls". Here is the info & cheapest place I've found to get them:- York Cartridge Roll Kit Spirally wound aluminium oxide cloth roll that we...
