Re: Hi from Sunny Scotland
And greetings from another newbie working on his post count. I finally had my 1st trip to Scotland (by car) in May and was blown away by the Highlands and Islands. Stayed on Mull and bagged my first Monroe, Ben Moore. Wish those open roads weren't quite so far away!

Re: Hello from new member Mike TW9
I'd love but... My 11 yr old daughter is v excited daddy has a bike again, though she hasn't seen it yet (am divorced, and chuffed she's thrilled) . She knows i used to take her elder sister on the back and can't wait to have a go herself. Saturday morning is the appointed time. The plan is- Go to J...

Re: Hello from new member Mike TW9
Thanks again, you guys are magic! Jamoi sounds convincing saying opt for the stopper mod (thanks mate!). I'm good with bicycles but fairly novice with m/cycles, so average spanner wielding skills sounds good. I'll check the rectifier too, pretty sure it'll be the unfinned one. I'll aim to get this d...

Re: Hello from new member Mike TW9
The chain looks like it's virtually touching the pipe at rest, but there's no clanking when riding or pushing it forward and the slack is perhaps 2.5 inches (think it should be about 1.5 from recollection), so don't think it's urgent yet. But I'm wanting to get into good habits, so I watched a youtu...

Re: Hello from new member Mike TW9
Thanks all for the latest advice! I'll do a few more basic checks today. Interesting that it's normal for the chain to be able to clank the exhaust pipe even if it doesn't happen going along, I wouldn't have expected that. And yes, I've got standard CCTs and just posted a question on another thread-...

Re: Manual Cam Chain Tensioner Installation Guide (MCCT's)
So how paranoid about failure should I be with a recently purchased 1998 bike with 22,700 showing on the clock and standard CCTs? I can't be sure whether or when the valve clearances, cam chain or tensioner were last checked.

Re: Random shut down?
I had a similar issue yesterday only with loss of power instead of surging cruising along the motorway. I'd filled up to the brim about 15 miles before it happened (standard unleaded rather than the high octane stuff the previous owner said he always used, this was the first time I'd filled it). It ...

Re: How do I get my break foot pedal higher
Thanks for the info. posted here- it made me realise the height adjusts by turning the nut above the locknut, which also turns the spindle bit.
Cheers!

Re: Hello from new member Mike TW9
Hi again, Good to see what an active and friendly forum this is! Yes, I'm in the Richmond area. Shame the roads and traffic are shite round here. Thanks for the advice on loss of power. I was hoping it might just have not liked the gear I was in at low revs. A simple site search found me the info. I...

Hello from new member Mike TW9
Hi all, I bought a 1998 reg black VTR in great condition as far as I can tell on Thurs. Just got back from my first motorway blast and am not disappointed! This is my first bike for 10 years, the last one's being Yamaha Diversion 600 & Suzuki GS500e. Back then I was sensible and cautious with my...
