Re: QA/RC45 Throttle Tube
I've ordered an RC45 tube 53140-ML7-000, but before I did I checked the p/no on Partzilla. Interestingly looks like the 2005 VTR came with this as standard, the 1998 to 2004 uses a different part number 53140-MY9-890.

Re: Rear of Tank Attachment
I think that size of top hat would be used at one of the mounts for the front of the tail cowling.

Re: Rear of Tank Attachment
According to the parts fiche there should be two of the rubber sleeves, plus a plain washer, the rest you have. Rubber sleeves fit into the bracket on the tank and that then slips between the upright brackets bolted to the frame. The bolt then passes through all of that, with the washer and nut on t...

To Hawk and GingerBeard, thank you both for taking the time to express, so eloquently, your views on modifications. It is posts like these that keep forums alive, in that they are thought provoking and informative, and uncover a lot of the man behind the message. I've done a little delving into carb...

Re: Chain Rivetting
I have a Bikemaster chain rivet tool, and it does take a fair bit of force to mushroom the pins properly. The service manual gives the specified finished diameter of the flared end, on the VTR with an RK chain it is 5.45-5.85mm.

Re: My theory on carb farts
My 72000km 1997 VTR doesn't fart at all under any running conditions. Running a clean K&N filter, well-balanced carbs, TPS set to 500 ohms but I haven't been into the carbs at all (and based on the rest of the bike, no-one else has either). The only fart I've ever heard (from the bike) was when ...

Re: Oh my wrists!
Rather than the ride position (which I doubt would be worse than an R1 or 'Bus) maybe you've got an issue with the front suspension? As standard these have very restrictive compression valves which will transmit more road shock to the rider. In my experience (with both the VTR and also a 99 VFR800) ...

Re: adjustable foot pegs
That slipping away feeling is probably coming from a worn front tyre. I tend to wear a flat zone at a comfortable but not extreme lean, and when I lean further there's a tippy feeling as I pass over the edge of the flat onto the original profile. New tyres always feel blissful after that. Sent from ...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
I decided it was time for a new chain and sprockets, so I stripped off the left muffler and the footpeg mount, then pulled the old chain off without breaking it. Funny, I'm sure I could do the same on my VFR800 but it never occurred to me. I do like the ease of riveting the new chain on a work bench...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Used a new head stand that I bought online (seriously cheap at GBP29) and refitted the OEM rebound damper valve bodies plus 5 x 0.15mm shims and some fresh 10W. Wish I'd bought one of these stands years ago! Took a very relaxing 4 hour ride to Kaiaua, Mercer then up the Awhitu Peninsula and enjoyed ...

Solo seat cover
Hi all, I decided I needed to make my VTR a bit faster, and so I ordered a new solo seat cover from my friendly Honda dealer, and picked it up today. All I have received is the painted plastic cowl, but as the fiche only shows an assembly I was expecting a few more bits. http://i629.photobucket.com/...
