General running

I have a 99 VFR and 97 VTR. I think the VTR is better at low revs (2-3 krpm) than the VFR with a lot more pull, smoother and easier to modulate (carbs vs FI ). I have a stock but high mileage VTR but with well balanced carbs and TPS set at 500 ohms. Its a different story above 6 krpm. VFR all the wa...

Re: What's annoyed you today??

I must get this off my chest. I can rebuild a VTR. I can strip my Norton to the bare frame, strip the engine down to the crank (it's bolt together) and build it back to running condition. I can even rebuild an Ossa Pioneer and make it run but, for the life of me, I can't make, an almost new, Weed E...

Re: A quick and dirty CCT stopper mod?

That is the correct way to do the job; Ian was looking to save the grief of accessing the front cam cover, and just swapping the CCT over. Having gone through the full exercise myself, I can understand why he was looking to do so.

Re: A quick and dirty CCT stopper mod?

I see where kermit is coming from here, getting to the front cam cover is a huge PITA compared to the rear head. I'd think gravity would tend to hold the front chain in place when the tensioner pressure is removed as the tensioner blade is weighing down on the chain so unlikely for any slippage to o...

No disrespect intended to jzape by the way; I have very limited ability in any other language than my mother tongue, and my mother has often told me I'm not that good at English at times either...

Re: manual cct's hints and tips

When I read Darkember's post I thought he was suggesting making the MCCT's out of cardboard. I'm sure they'd be fine until the first rain... My OEM CCTs very graciously exited the engine and left behind the gaskets in perfectly reusable form (so I did). The only hint that I would add to the manual C...

Re: fallo motor

Based on his last post, I think the problem is that one of jzape's candlesticks has blown out.

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

First ride today after fitting the CBR954 callipers and master cylinder...what a difference! Firm, controlled braking from the first pull of the lever, with oodles of power to follow. One finger was all that was required for a serious stop. As modifications go, I can highly recommend this one. The o...

Re: what have you done to your

As Mac says don't leave it open or you will have to flush it through again . And did you prime the oil filter ? Lube, no lube, it's your choice . ok i'll go put the lid back on, nah I didn't prime the filter, as I thought most of it would fall out when fitting the filter... no the oil didn't ...

Re: Engine needed ...... maybe!

Did the failed one have manual cct's? 8O Does the one you are now putting on the road have manual cct's? 8O Failure = auto cct's 2nd bike = manual That sounds like a statistical proof to me! Sorry to hear about your (potential) loss. First thing I did when I bought my VTR was fit MCCTs. Feels like ...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Also on my list, replacing the rusty Torx bolts with something shiny. Can anyone advise the size and grade I need? The sizes needed are 8X35 and 8X40 with a pitch of 1.25 as for the grade....good ones of course.....  Thanks Hawk; I'll go shopping today. Sent from my iPhone using Ta...
