Re: VFR800 fork cartridges?

I have used VTR1000F fork parts interchangeably with VFR800 bits, the cartridges etc are all the same dimensions. The key to the extended fork length is the placement of the top-out spring on the outside of the cartridge, and the length of the fork tube. My recollection is that the VFR and VTR have ...

Re: Rattle in dash

I think if you reconnect the flux capacitor and exceed 88 mph, you may travel through time. Or so I've heard.

Re: Rogered forks identification

Part 12 in the diagram is the damper cartridge, the valves are located inside this. You may be able to see part of the compression valve through the ports near the base, otherwise you can pop them out for a look. If you push the threaded base of the cartridge in a bit you will expose a circlip, pop ...

Re: Brake Pads

The leading pistons are smaller as the disc is cooler at the point it enters the caliper. Friction heat causes the trailing piston to have to work harder to generate even force, hence the larger piston. Without that I understand you'd have excess wear on the leading edge of the pad.

Re: Brake Pads

VFR800's 02-12 will use 14mm integral masters, as will ST1100's (but not the ones with 3-pot calipers). My personal view is that stock VTR callipers would probably be better with a CBR600F4i 15.87mm master which would be less grabby; but I never tried that.

Re: Forks

A shudder under brakes is more likely to be a disc that is not running true. The discs are easily tweaked by knocking them e.g. during a tyre swap. In my experience it is not the steel disc that bends, but the soft alloy carrier that supports them, and this can be very carefully tweaked back true wi...

Re: Tyre pressure and temp sensor

On the valve. They have a button cell but only send via low intensity Bluetooth when there is movement, so hopefully will last a while. I'm guessing that means the sensor screws down on the top of the valve pressing on the pin to open the Schrader valve :?: Chris. The sensors have some sort of moti...

Re: Tyre pressure and temp sensor

I've been using these across three bikes over the past few years and they work really well at catching an imminently flat tyre well before you feel anything amiss. Batteries last 1-2 years generally, but can be a little challenging to locate. My only small gripe is the weight of the transmitter valv...

Re: that dread realization

I'm finding my MT-10 to be really comfy after a long day in the saddle; I did 630km more or less non-stop on Sunday and stepped off fresh as a daisy. The ride position is very good and has ample leg room, a comfy seat and bars that are "just so", right where you want them to be. In spite o...

Forgive me, I have been unfaithful and bought one of these bad boys. Don't ride one unless you want to get hooked, you have been warned...Like the Storm, it is loud, fun and likes a drink. It's the 10, and the fancy version with semi-active Ohlins. And it does indeed make lovely noises.

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Got my hands on some exceedingly inexpensive High levels a little while ago. Came without fitting brackets but sent a homing pigeon to Fabios last night with some technical drawings (Da Vinci would be proud) and back came some plates. Fitted today and quite chuffed. Had to pull the indicators off s...

My CB250RS was a decent little bike and enabled me to win the university MC club's economy run at 145mpg (yes I was trying; I think slipstreaming in the blue clouds behind a fellow rider's GT750 2-stroke helped!).

Re: what have you done to your

I got some nice new rubber fitted. I had some Roadtec 01s on there but they had worn to the point where the handling was decidely dodgy, lots of inside bar pressure needed to hold down in the turns. Replaced with nice new Bridgestone S22s. These feel super lovely and the bike loves them, feeling ve...
