Re: setting up forks

Sorry just remeasured the fork cap above the tube fully extended and it's 22mm. Shall I just cut 7mm off the spacers to give me 15mm compression ? AAaAAAaaaaaaaAAAaaaAAaaaaaAaaargh. Pubs open in an hour.

Re: setting up forks

If you have the adjusters backed right out then the spacers may be too long for the new springs. The stock springs need a lot of preload to get them sort of working so the spacers are fairly long. For most road use you should have the springs compressed about 10-15mm when the fork is fully extended...

Re: setting up forks

Thanks everyone, even with my little knowledge I was coming to the conclusion that I may have to trim the spacers down. Although the bike feels a lot better than it did before , my concern was that it might become a safety issue if I had done something wrong .Interesting that Fabiostar has a similar...

Re: setting up forks

Can anybody confirm that the figures I am trying to achieve are static sag. I am getting close with rider sag. And as the springs fitted were rider weight related , it makes more sense to me to measure rider sag. Sorry to appear thick but I have never dabbled in the dark art before.

Re: Op Storm Wales 2017 September 15, 16, 17

As I live so close to St. Harmon it would be rude not to turn up. Thought about just coming up for the Saturday ride and returning home . Then looked into booking into the pub in the village. But if there is a space in the bunkhouse I'd be happy to take one of them. Let me know about funds needed. D...

They are definitely better than they were, just a bit confused by the sag measurement.

Re: Whats cheered you up today...?

Bloke wandering around the coffee stop at Glyn Tarell on the A470 in a kilt and Dr. Martens. Looked like Axel Rose from an 80's video. Then he put on an open face helmet and got on a black Ducati Diavel. :confused I don't think he was Scottish .

Re: setting up forks

Thanks everyone , yes I did fit new springs. They were 8.5 n K- tech springs, which are the standard length, so I didn't alter the spacer length. Everything else I did as in Carls post. Carl has P.M d me a bit of additional info which I will look at tomorrow. Been out on th the bike this afternoon a...

setting up forks

Did the standard fork upgrade last week and have spent most of this week playing with rebound and pre load. They feel O.K. but my sag readings are nothing like those recommended by Roger at the end of Carls post. His target figure is 28mm. the best I can achieve is 16mm. with the pre load wound full...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Just Rogered my forks. Many thanks to Carl again for his excellent write up in the workshop section. Never dabled in the dark art of suspension before . Home made abba stand was a big success. Just out for a ride to play with the preload and rebound settings . Will report later. Dave

That looks like a billiard table compared to the B 4348 . Apart from the corner pocket with the flower arrangement in it.

The B4348 Golden Valley road. Rode it today going back to Gloucester. Absolutely shocking state of repair. 17 miles of not much fun. What do we pay road tax for?

This thread maybe of some help too https://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12471&p=95496&hilit=abba+stand#p95496 If you need me to take some measurements I can do some tomorrow. What would be cool is if you made telescopic uprights so you could extend the height so you have t...
