Re: Oil leak from speedo sensor
Was a new sensor from partzilla.com. No, the wires haven't got pulled. I'll double check that the oil isn't emerging from the edge and migrating up to the middle (obviously it's a bit hard to tell) but if not then it'll have to be a warranty claim. Would be interesting if anyone's experienced a simi...

Oil leak from speedo sensor
I changed my speedo sensor back in December, and used a new o-ring.
However, I've developed an oil leak from the sensor in the last few weeks and it appears to be coming from the middle of the sensor where the wires emerge! WTF?

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Had a fantastic ride out to Snowdonia this evening on the A5104 and A5 through Betws-y-Coed to Bangor and back to Chester. Very empty roads for most of it. For a while on a wide, open bit of the A5 I was behind a police BMW X5 who was possibly doing some high-speed training – overtaking everyone, ta...

Re: Changing wheel bearings tomorrow - quick bit of advice needed
Cheers for all the very nice encouragement I had with this from y'all :D I've since had the rear shock replaced (with a Hagon one) and the shock linkage bearings overhauled (I was lazy and took it to my local garage for these). The handling's much nicer now, not surprisingly. I've also replaced the ...

Re: Right carburation settings
...The only problem there is it's pretty much impossible to do on the bike with it running, you will probably have to pop the carbs off, try going 1 turn out and see what difference that makes. Not at all impossible if you get one of these: http://www.carbtune.co.uk/bevel.html £44 is quite pricey I...

Squeaky throttle linkage
My throttle assembly on my carbs is squeaky (it's definitely that and not the cables or twistgrip).
What's the best lube to use for this? The manual doesn't seem to mention it. I'd rather not have to disassemble it to do so, and perhaps all I need is a tiny squirt of WD40 at the various pivot points?

'Idle drop' vs 'Best idle' procedures
I've finally obtained an inductive tachometer so I can now set my pilot mixture by the book. The procedure in the Honda manual for a UK '98 model with #48 pilots (as mine is), is the 'idle drop procedure' which involves setting both screws to 1-5/8 turns, setting the idle speed to 1200 rpm, turning ...

Re: Chain adjuster stuck!
What a weird coincidence - mine's just done exactly the same. Was fine when I adjusted the chain a month or so ago, then when I went to do it a couple of days ago the RH one was stuck solid. I did eventually get it to move after applying WD40 but I've ordered a new one anyway.

Re: brake lever feels notchy
Quite often when I've had this and prepared myself for having to overhaul the master cylinder I've found that it's sorted just by greasing the lever pivot and where it contacts the piston.

Re: Chain breaker & rivetter
Cheers for this. Yes I'd expect to have to replace the rivetting head now and again but with my tool the whole thread on the plunger stripped whilst I was rivetting. I was following the instructions to the letter and when using the tool to break the chain I had ground off the head of the pin which t...

Chain breaker & rivetter
Can anyone recommend a chain breaking and rivetting tool that's up to the job of working on the Firestorm's chain? I had a Sealey tool which claims to be able to deal with 530 chains but last time I used it I was rivetting the second pin and suddenly there was a loud crack...I thought I'd b*ggered t...

Re: Oxford soft panniers with pillion
Hahahaha very good question. No, and nor have I been pillion on any bike. I know why you're asking...but she's only little and I do have a few luxuries such as a set of Oxford 'Rider Grips' (aka love handles) and a genuine sheepskin seat pad. She says although the seat's harder and smaller than on m...

Re: Oxford soft panniers with pillion
Hmmm well that is rubbish isn't it?
Any recommendations for carrying a (small) pillion plus Oxford panniers? Maybe I just need to do the broom handle trick I've seen described on here?

Oxford soft panniers with pillion
I have a pair of large Oxford soft panniers with which I've already managed to snap one of the rear cowl lower mounting points (wish I'd read up on here before using them). I want to be able to use them with my girlfriend on the back and some camping gear...my question is, if I was to get a Renntec ...

Re: Drive chain slider
Ah of course... Was forgetting about the tensioning when you sit on the bike!
My mind's at rest then although I might check mine does clear it when I sit on the bike. Just vaguely trying to ascertain why my last chain got tight links sooner than I'd have liked and checking all possibilities.
