Advanced riding

Anyone else here done a Bikesafe course with the cops? I've just done one, and although I've never been a huge fan of the plod, (ever since they banned me for having long hair and driving an XR3), I have to say it was really good, and I feel faster than before! (and safer) Has anyone else here had '...

:D Really pleased its fixed mate, and I can only assume that the mechanic who did mine the first time got it wrong too.....
Hopefully this will mean nobody else has to go through the same problems!

Now if only I could sort the brakes and handling on mine it'd be perfect

Thanks guys (and girl!) I'm from the lakes originally, and my parents are still up there, so I may make it up for the Bowness run! As for a midlands run, the weather is pretty dire this weekend, but let me see if I can organise something soon. Just to gauge it, how many of you would be up for a blas...

VTRmart - Thanks for the suggestions, but i'm not sure how you can adjust the timing if the the tensioner is on the chain, surely this stops you adjusting anything?

Sorry, I meant to say set up the timing with the CCT out, but CHECK the timing again after you fit the CCT and the chain gets tensioned.

Tempest, I've noticed the same thing (nuts against tank) 8O Unless I concentrate and push my butt back up the seat, I slide forwards...... I'm 6foot 0, so I fit most big bikes OK, but the storm seat does seem to be angled a little too much. I don't find it a major problem as I find you slide back ag...

Don't want to worry you Ian, but mine had Scorpions on it..... I don't think they'll stop the CCT going again sometime in the future

They do sound great though....

.... although I just realised that the fact my 98 storm has only 10k on it must mean the previous owner (who had it from new) barely road it!!! so it could be lack of use or hard use that killed mine.. 8O

Use mine everyday, and fairly hard, it's an 98 storm with 10k miles, front CCT went :(
It may be coincidence, but it went the day after I had been giving the bike a damn hard thrashing chasing a new Speed Triple around!

Countryboy, Ok, here are a few more thoughts on the problem After the front CCT went, I reset the front timing, checked the rear timing (although it was fine) and fitted new front and rear CCTs.... and as you know i got a misfire at 6k Second strip down revealed valves hadn't touched pistons, but I ...

Hi Countryboy, I know exactly what you mean, mine don't quite line up either and that's why I checked and re-checked the cam timing. Mine are a few degrees out but it's running fine. I think the problem lies elsewhere (unfortunately) :( I'll have a think about this and see if I can come up with a li...

I thought vavle timing the likely problem but I checked it about ten times, and so did a senior mechanic, so I'm certain it wasn't that. I notices John W posted a very similar reply in this thread..... Hi there, just read about your problem, ihad this exact same problem last year after a front cct f...

Fixed!

:D Finally put the engine back together and took it for a spin this morning on the way to work..... It's fixed! I no longer have the misfire at 6k I'm not actually sure how I fixed it, all I did was re-lap in the vavles in the front cylinder head, but it worked. :? I think either re-lapping the valv...

Thanks Squiffy, I'll check it as well. You're right, it hasn't been mentioned before and is easy to check, but I wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it.

I'll attack it tomorrow armed with a multimeter and a trusty haynes manual.... wish me luck!
