Good question andy c, on a 24k miles '98 bike, i took mine out at xmas 2006 to change the internal springs - as a precaution ( chaps advertises on this forum ) - and f**k me if the metal 'glove' on the front one hadnt wandered half way off ! :x so....bloody good job i took them out as it would not ...

hi karlos, as a quick response if you are on about cam timing then an easy way to get in the right ballpark is to : - remove rear cylinder cover - set it to TDC on compression stroke - cam lobes point together like / \ and i think RT lines up on crank marker and markers on the cams line up with top ...

mr bean, put your multimeter on it when the problem occurs and see what voltages you've got - check the voltage on the starter motor connector, it sounds like a connection is breaking or earthing when the engine is hot - you'll have to work back from the starter motor connector on the starter itself ...
