Re: Throttle Position Indicator

Solved the mystery ! Shimmed the needles. Just used any old washers I had kicking around in the garage that fitted, so not very technical ! Just wanted to see if going richer on the needles was the right direction. It's so much better I'm going to leave it for now ! Might look for a dynojet kit. I b...

Re: Throttle Position Indicator

Well, I decided to take it all apart (Again !!!) to check the pilot screws. Front one was 3 turns out from fully in rear was 4 turns out. I think someone had tried a quick fix when they put on the open exhaust cans. I've adjusted the front and rear back to the factory suggested starting point of 2 1...

Re: Throttle Position Indicator

Thanks for the thorough advice. Gut feeling tells me you're right and its the mixture screws. Plugs are quite sooty so I think maybe the idle mixture is a bit rich. I've tried more throttle during the transition phase and it makes it worse than when feathering. The air filter is also standard. I tri...

Re: Engine ticking help please.

Ages since I've signed in ! Turns out the ticking that remained after fitting new CCT's was actually valves that were WAY out ! Just the stutter at 3000 rpm to sort now. I've posted a separate request for advice as I think it may be TPI related......

Throttle Position Indicator

I need some help and I think it's TPI related. Carbs are balanced, valves re-shimmed to correct spec. Bike still stutters/stumbles around 3000 rpm when I gently role on the throttle. The TPI is set to 500 as per the manual and it's much better than when I bought it at around 800 ! It's got after mar...

Re: Engine ticking help please.

Been around the engine with a screw driver, listening for the location of the noise. Without the benefit of another bike to listen to, my best guess is the primary drive chain. It was definitely loudest in the region of the front of the gear box cover near the starter motor on the right hand side. D...

Re: Engine ticking help please.

Exhaust sealed up, it was only blowing in one place where the aftermarket link pipe joined on to the header on the right side. Flushed and refilled the coolant, it was tight without taking the fairing off but possible. Being as I'd realigned one of the camshafts the day before I decided to balance t...

Re: Engine ticking help please.

Can feel the exhaust blowing on the right side under the engine so exhaust paste purchased. Tomorrow's jobs are to check the the entire exhaust and also change the coolant, just for peace of mind. Gut feeling is valve clearances but gonna start with the exhaust first. Whatever it is it can't be too ...

Engine ticking help please.

Big hello to you all ! I've just joined having recently bought a 99 Storm. Got her for silly money as she had some rough running issues. I've reset the TPS to 500 and fitted manual CCT's according to the excellent guide here. Found the inlet camshaft on the rear cylinder was one tooth out !!! She no...
