Re: Question for the Electricians...

Quick update: New starter motor, but same symptoms that it would start super shitty. Cleaned starter solenoid connections and gave it a new 30A fuse, as the old one fell apart. Put a separate ground cable between R/R and the battery (-). Cleaned all connectors from and to R/R as well as stator... Fi...

Re: Question for the Electricians...

The weird thing though is that the voltage drops when revving. Normally it should be going up with the revs, right?

Question for the Electricians...

Hi All, the Storm is rebuilt, ready for the road - nearly. My charging is a bit odd on my Storm. The Service Manual says switch on high-beam, rev to 5k rpm and check, that the battery charging is between 13.5 and 15V. Done that; my bike charges 13.6V in idle but when I rev up to 5k rpm, it drops dow...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

Quick update guys. After setting the timing correct, buying some shims and having the proper clearance, removing the rear head to get that little screw out, putting it back together and breaking off a valve cover bolt, fishing the cable tie out of the oil sump, I was finally able to put her temporar...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

Screw is out from the rear cylinder, now waiting for the head gasket to arrive. Front cylinder valve clearance once again measured Hopefully you are aware that the measurments will change with the head on the bike and cam chain tensioned up. Doing valve clearance with the head off is only a rough g...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

So, shims changed and now am down to 0.15 on both intake valves.

Hopefully the head gasket for the rear arrives soon, so I can get her back together...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

So, quick update here. Screw is out from the rear cylinder, now waiting for the head gasket to arrive. Front cylinder valve clearance once again measured, same result: 0.25 on both intakes. Took the shims out, FIL is 1.7, FIR is 1.8. So this will basically mean, I will need 1.79 (1.8) on FIL, and 1....

Re: Valve Clearance ?

No chance to get at it... can’t see it, tried magnetic tape (and i could hear it bouncing around), hoover, coat hanger, nothing.

Would there be a way to get at it through the exhaust :confused

Re: Valve Clearance ?

I think I will - after getting that screw out of the spark plug hole from the rear cylinder - measure the whole lot again. Yesterday I was putting the different values all towards the wrong timing, today I'm absolutely unsure whether this is the case. Once I have constant measurements after a couple...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

Haha; I have personally experienced the "oh-sh1t" moment when you turn the crank and hear the cable tie snap. Lucky for me it hit the wall behind me, and did not dive into the crankcase. It is a good reason to use a brightly coloured cable tie! I had that idea... after my black cable tie ...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

Timing is now 100%. Had to measure the clearance multiple times, as I got always slightly different values. But since the timing is now spot on, this is my result (looking at it as if standing behind the bike): 0.30 0.29 0.25 0.25 0.10 0.10 0.29 0.31 Based on the tolerance (Intake 0.13-0.19 and Exha...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

Thanks for all the input guys, really appreciate it! Quick update: Rear cylinder is now properly adjusted and valve clearance measured: RIL 0.13 RIR 0.13 REL 0.31 RER 0.32 Now back to the front and what do I see? Apparently off by a tooth (even though I adjusted it the last time), I can see the FE m...

Re: Valve Clearance ?

But that means, if I set my front cylinder properly to FT, then rotate 270 and I ‘reset’ the rear cylinder, I can’t go wrong, can I?

Re: Valve Clearance ?

Hi guys, thanks for your prompt responses! So, I had the cam lobes of the front cylinder facing upwards, the FI and FE marks on the cams are level with the cylinder head and facing away from each other (I double checked that 3 times). Then I turned anti-clockwise 270 degrees (it's more like 290 or 3...
