Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Fitted the 6mm spacer under the rear shock and the forks are still unimproved and rubbish, so that'll be exciting. Also I think I've 'fixed' (or improved considerably) a long standing problem that's been a little disconcerting at times. At speed the front brakes would pulse, a bit like a warped disk...

Re: Airbox intake snorkel taped up. Why???

Did you replace the filter like for like ?, sounds like you need to go back to how it was then to get it spot in go to a rolling road carb specialist to get the bike properly set up Couldn't see a brand on the outgoing filter (actually, might go and dig it out of the wheelie bin), but looked the sa...

Re: Airbox intake snorkel taped up. Why???

So, up early for a run to the coast before it gets too busy, but it was not running right at all. OK at very small throttle openings (i.e. through the village), but stuttering in a big way on anything more than tickling the throttle. No idea if it's either related to the taped up airbag intake or wh...

Airbox intake snorkel taped up. Why???

Thought I'd change the air filter today (not had bike long). Found half of the intake snorkel gaffa taped over. Never seen this before, or heard of it being done, but was obviously done for a reason. Any ideas why? (FWIW the airbox lid had 2 stickers - Dynojet and the K&N filter warning one whic...

Re: Headphones in helmet?

That's useful to know - I was doubtful about hearing anything above the din of the unbaffled Quills and the wind noise. I have to wear earplugs - well I prefer to so I don't keep listening to mechanical noises and worrying - a habit from the Guzzi 8O Might be best for me to check out mounting the ph...

Re: (CCT) Need decent mechanic in Cambridge area. Or further.

Sound like the timings is out, bogging down at 5-7000 classic symtoms... Runs fine at lower revs but when it gets up in the rev range cant get enough air in to feed both cylinders at once... Yep, that's an ominously good description! I'd reset the timing & fit a set of manuals for you North Ken...

Headphones in helmet?

What do people normally do? I always wear earplugs (a habit from the Guzzi so I don't hear all the rattles). But it would be rather nice to have sat nav instructions.

Some sort of special helmet headphones stuck in helmet? Earbud type? No idea so any experiences would be good to hear.

(CCT) Need decent mechanic in Cambridge area. Or further.

This might be a bit of an unusual problem for Storms, but I think I have a bit of a cam chain rattle [1] It's not running great and feels reluctant to rev out - great low down but goes a bit less rewarding after 4-5kRPM or so. I have no confidence at all in replacing them myself, plus I don't have a...

Re: Fuel warning light - no hang on this is different....

Thing is that I was actually rubbing it after 6 miles though! Or a coincidental problem but then it ran perfectly after filling up. So if it’s a float in there it might just be that it’s been sitting for a while and got a bit sticky. The fuel can on the back is a good idea to see for certain though ...

Fuel warning light - no hang on this is different....

So, first time with new bike hitting fuel warning light.

Came on at 110miles. Yay, about right.

But - started sputtering 6miles later - only just made it to petrol station. Bike started and ran normally after refilling.

Any ideas why only 6miles after light I was out?

Re: Wot to check? VTR buying

Thanks for the reassurance! So,went and had a look and first impressions were great - hard to believe it's 24yrs old! All standard apart from braided hoses and double bubble screen. Started up fine (from cold) was very responsive to throttle blips. No untoward noises that I could hear. A very short ...

Wot to check? VTR buying

After a 15yr hiatus I'm thinking of getting another Storm. Looking at a high mileage but cheap one tomorrow - over thinking it and getting stressed. Is there anything obvious to check? Am I daft looking at a high (44k?) mileage one? Thoughts and calming reassurance or otherwise very welcome. (I'm su...

UPDATE 2!! Went to deonstrate the 'notch' to my mate but couldn't really feel it again! I think I might have, but not sure. Mate couldn't. Went along to the MOT testing station in the village and told him honestly what happened and asked him if he'd have a quick look. "How f*cking picky do they...
