Re: New to forum, a VTR and bikes!

Quite a brave move jumping on a powerful v twin as a 'beginner' bike - well done who says you can't or shouldn't? Like you, I'm new to the forum so share your reticence about asking obvious questions but they're a great bunch on here (and on the Facebook page) - they'll be sick of me soon! Love tink...

Re: Some answers on E10 fuels

So basically MAY cause minor damage to fuel lines and ancillaries in 20+ year old machines but doubtful, reduced economy in an already small capacity tank & separation of the fuel constituents if left for a period of time.

Re: Royal Mail

Cost £9.75 to post to Yorkshire (Mick "yellabel" ) was expecting a lot more ! https://i.postimg.cc/34rg7LZZ/20220531-114041.jpg When it arrived (work address) they asked if I'd been buying midgets! Of course, it arrived after I'd left so the 2nd shift collected and dropped it off for me i...

Re: Rear shock spacer

Well gents, I think in that case then, this will be a winter project. I don't know if the forks have had any work done to them. There'd be too much riding time lost this summer. They need to come apart at some stage over the winter anyway to clean up the fork bottoms, they've had a poor silver paint...

Re: Rear shock spacer

Except whilst you have the bike up in the air service the shock linkage!
Splendid idea - have been reading the article in the workshop how to pages... been meaning to check this out. It looks good as it is but the horror stories mess with you so a wee service won't go amiss.

Re: Rear shock spacer

Many thanks chaps - I'll knock a few different widths up at work purely out of interest ti see if there's any noticeable difference from 4, 5 & 6mm options.

Rear shock spacer

There are spacers available at 4, 5 & 6mm widths. Do they do the job as described i.e. make the bike turn in quicker & easier or are they a gimmick and unnecessary?

Re: Suspected failing regulator/rectifier - fluctuating speedo

Haven't had chance to road test yet so I'm still unsure if cleaning up the terminals at the rear of the clocks has cured the fluctuating speedo. In the meantime though, I've a full speedo sensor coming which I can swap out or keep as a spare but also another on its way from JonnieIrish on the Facebo...

Re: Suspected failing regulator/rectifier - fluctuating speedo

Had a few hours in the garage. Clocks off to check connections and for corrosion. Everything looked untouched, even a wispy cobweb in there. Typical fine surface rust on mild steel galv screw heads but nothing major. Took all 12 out one by one and cleaned them and the terminal loops up with a brass ...

Re: Suspected failing regulator/rectifier - fluctuating speedo

Never known a reg rec to be itermitant. The reg rec will either fail compleatly, the speedo just dies. Or overheats the battery on it's way out. The £20 replacment ones are best avoided... GO Mossfet or wait at the side of the road to get home... The speedo fluctuating could be a speedo senso...

Re: Suspected failing regulator/rectifier - fluctuating speedo

[/quote] I can't say there is very much wrong with those figures compared to my Storm. What's the voltage at the battery terminals on your multi-meter with the engine running and the lights turned off :?: Mine shows 14.4 or 14.3 volts at idle speed. Those rectifiers do run fairly hot, that's normal....

Suspected failing regulator/rectifier or speedo sensor - fluctuating speedo

Took the bike out last Saturday on a 180 mile round trip. Was faultless except for when I noticed the speedo acting up. It was fluctuating, noticeably at 40+ mph up to 90ish. At first I assumed it was the speed sensor, and it probably is so thats going to get changed, but after digging on the forum ...
