Re: A rather rounded stator cover bolt...

Thanks for that alanfjones1411  https://i.postimg.cc/gxtTqtdH/New-caps.jpg Ordered the small one also for completeness sake, this comes with a 10mm head whereas the 30mm cap has a 14mm head. Genuine Honda replacement o-rings are supplied too which is handy. Seems to be well made, fit well o...

Re: A rather rounded stator cover bolt...

Success, thanks for the great advice tony.mon  https://i.postimg.cc/KK7HCRTg/Success.jpg As I didn't have a centre punch to hand I ended up cutting two grooves with the Dremel then used a cold chisel and a 1.8kg lump hammer to tease it out. To my surprise, it came out without too much drama...

Re: New exhausts...

Thanks for the advice tony.mon  The Honda downpipes to Black Widow (BW) link pipes seal perfectly (even although it does away with the seals (which I guess are the graphite ones you mention)). The issue is (was?) one of the BW link pipes to one of the BW cans. These are a sleeve fit (and no...

Re: Newbie - General VTR questions...

Thanks tony.mon :) I appreciate your advice. Still not sure what I'm doing with them yet, if anything. As I get only a single day a week to ride/work on the bike I've been making the most of the good weather and putting plenty miles on he bike. I've shelved most other thoughts for the time being but...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Hey all, What was supposed to be a simply job turned into one horrid dirty cleaning fest. Messy pics are after I scraped out about a lb of gritty, oily dough and three rounds of engine degreaser. Have to start polishing that swingarm though  https://i.postimg.cc/PP1VQT1k/IMG-20220701-153403.jp...

A rather rounded stator cover bolt...

I was warned... https://i.postimg.cc/rRF3YbT9/IMG-20220625-210259.jpg Is it even made of metal? :confused Allen socket rounded, knowing the bolt in ruined I eased in an oversize torx bit, not happy with rounding things off some more it lopped off a couple of chunks for good measure. After the pictur...

Re: New exhausts...

Appreciate your comments guys  The Mikalor clamps (ordered the W5 version, full marine grade 316 S/S) were fitted on Saturday...then promptly removed. I checked the max torque setting listed by Mikalor (12N-m and 16N-m for the two sizes I required; both on M7 bolts) and compared these to th...

Re: Newbie - General VTR questions...

Thanks for that popkat  I'll probably do as you suggest for the front end. I called them (K-Tech) for advice on spring rates and they suggested 9.5N (based on me being 85kgs, which is a guess on my part, I need to properly weight myself). I guess when I'm in there I should replace the seals...

Re: Newbie - General VTR questions...

Thanks again guys, sorry for the late response. I contacted Roger but he's unable to supply the parts only. From what I've read about him and what little we spoke it's clear he's the right choice if you want a properly sorted front end, he knows what he's doing. However, the bike is 22 years old and...

New exhausts...

Hey all, Just recently started riding with earplugs in in a bid to reduce the noise inside the helmet at higher speeds. They've made a big difference and even with all the vents open noise is now MUCH reduced. However, it also blocks out much of the sound from the standard exhaust silencers. I had b...

Re: Newbie - General VTR questions...

Spot on tony.mon , much appreciated  I will lower the tyre pressures and see how that goes, order a replacement crankshaft cap and get hold of some new springs/oil. Any make recommended, would the generic Hyperpro kit do or should I find some that are weight matched? Is the air gap simply m...

Newbie - General VTR questions...

Hey all, Just a few questions, wonder if anyone can help answer them: 1) How hot/cold do these bikes run on the gauge? This one seems to run a little under half when out on open roads, but it warms up quite quickly if you are crawling around town, enough so to put the fan on (you only have one fan t...

Re: Hawk exhausts

Thanks for the reply. I measured up the standard silencers and they are around 470mm sleeve length (530mm from start of sleeve to end of tip). I will give them a call next week (they are closed for TT fortnight) and see if they can furnish me with some more dimensions. Are your Akra cans only a litt...

Re: New to forum, a VTR and bikes!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys  Glad you like the bike, not quite as tidy in person as in the pictures but it's doing remarkably well for 22+ years old. Struggling to find time to get out but managed about 200 miles or so over the past few weeks; a different experience from modern inline ...
