Re: MCCT - easy question!!

Just a note that when I was tensioning the lock nut, because I put high temp silicone around the base (as prescribed) the o ring had nowhere to seat. It just squidged out the side. I acted as though it wasn’t there, tightened up and smeared more silicone around the whole lock nut area too. Had to ma...

Re: Compression test.

Correct you are. I did what you suggest. This morning, smoke pops out of the exhaust but it does turn over.

Re: MCCT - easy question!!

Not quite the same. I think yours is superior, as it actually has the values I need 😆

Re: Compression test.

Manual CCT’s now installed. Checked timing and tension I’m happy with (not too tight, not too loose, about 6-7mm play between sprockets) So, time to re-visit the compression test. I don’t know why, but I’ve been fixated on getting to this point to check it’s worth continuing. The bike is stripped, s...

Re: MCCT - easy question!!

So I had planned to move the chain along one tooth on each of the cam sprockets, but since taking the auto CCT out and hand tightening the new one it would seem that the timing is now perfect. There’s obviously a bit of play in the system.

Re: MCCT - easy question!!

Thanks. I think we’ve got a slightly different Haynes as my 2.7 doesn’t look like that 8O Rear CCT done - only slight drama as I was torquing, the old 5mm Allen bolts were rounding, so I had to quickly make some 6mm bolts from b &q ones. Not the best quality for use on an engine, but only 20Nm. ...

Re: MCCT - easy question!!

Thanks Chris. The reason I was looking at that was because it didn’t look as though the new ones would be long enough. With the old ones still on, the chain section between cam sprockets was virtually zero movement - very stiff. As this unit was still working, I assume that this is the tension that ...

MCCT - easy question!!

Ok, I’m at the point in the write up where the old ones are out. I assume that the existing rubber insert and metal cap have to be reused? I have tried gently to pull them off but don’t want to pull too hard. Am I being daft? Surely I need them? the little metal peg end on the new ones can’t just pu...

Re: Chain link advice..

Thank you both for advice. I will certainly do it off the bike. Especially as I’ve got everything apart.

Tony, the vice method.., do you still mean to use a riveting tool or can it be whacked with a punch? (carefully)

Re: Chain link advice..

I’ve just checked and it comes with both types.. phew!

I hadn’t realised this. Apologies to TVH

I suppose not everyone has a riveting tool. I really would NOT of been happy on a big chain like this with a Lego link..

Chain link advice..

Hi all, I have looked in the Knowledge DB but as yet not found the answer. I bought a new chain today - a Gold TVH X-Ring Competition 102 link. I was expecting the final link to be one that I must rivet with a tool that I plan to borrow. Instead, there is a clip, the same as I'd expect on my sons BM...

Re: Finally, Carbs out!!

WOW that's what I call dedication   No the rubber inlet manifold's are meant to have some give in them, although not like a slice of radiator hose, not that much flexibility lol. Yours do sound they will need replacing as you mention. They're almost solid - you can deform them with lots...
