That I did Cupa, all now sorted, seems I am too daft to realise that the full cycle on a 4 stroke is 720 degrees, I was out by 360. Re-did the timing and Wa hay! off we go. Thanks for your suggestion though, I did check the operation of the mechanical and vac taps after you highlighted them as a ...

Thanks for the advice Sirch, I think I actually wrote the account wrong, I think I did as you suggested but then turned only 90 degrees anticlock, not the 450 that I should have. Had so little opportunity to look at it that I think I will start over, my thinking was that it was the front cylinder ...

I believe so, not sure it would run for longer than a couple of seconds if the vac wasn't opening the tap. Mind you, I was wondering if I had not fully opened the mechanical side of the tap (8mm square section) Thanks for the suggestion, it seems from the other link that I may have the timing on the ...

I bent a couple of ex valves on the front in Belgium, managed to ride home on it (350 miles) after a chap who owned a bike shop in Ypres let/helped me take it to bits in his workshop ...

Cam Chain Tensioner
You're right, only drained the coolant to get to the cams themselves and to see if the alignment had held. My spring broke at the other end, one loop down from where the 'hook' anchors the spring, I did fashion a new hook on the loose end but thought it best to replace the lot. I could not get the ...

Cam Chain Tensioners
Sorry to hear this (not quite as sorry as I was to hear my bike doing the same thing!) I bought the replacement tensioner from local dealer, was charged just short of £40 and fitted it myself, there is an element of dismantling involved, draining the coolant etc I found that I had jumped 3 or 4 t ...
