Helmet City

I'm not normally one to give testemonials, as I reckon companies should do what they're paid for, but having recently been burgered about by a couple of Internet companies I'm feeling generous, so here goes: I'd been vaguely considering a replacement for my 15 year old Shoei helmet so tried on vario...

Re: Europe - In or Out?

Good piece in this month's 'Bike' magazine about the problems of biking abroad if we leave the EU. Just don't get injured...

Re: What's your day job?

Work - tried it, didn't like it. Afaid geography means I can't help out, although I have put some windows in our barn conversion. It involved smashing metre size holes in a half-metre thick stone wall - one of the most nerve wracking things I've done. Happily, the house is still standing! Befo...

Re: Europe - In or Out?

Apparently, according to storminghonda, I ( and other expats) shouldn't have a say in the EU referendum because I live elsewhere in the EU. Just the sort of xenophobic cr*p I was pointing out. As we still own two houses in the UK, I'm in receipt of a UK occupational pension, pay UK income tax and ha...

Re: Europe - In or Out?

As someone who has retired to France it's pretty obvious that I'm for staying in. On a purely selfish basis, it seems clear that if the UK leaves, the pound will go through the floor (it's already fallen 15% just on talk of leaving). As all my income is in pounds and outgoings in Euros I (and many o...

Re: Whats your Favourite Film Thread

Anything with Brendon Gleeson, particularly In Bruge. Anything with Brendon AND Mark Strong - The Guard. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Attack the Block. Tarantino, Shawshank, Eastwood etc etc. Hey, if you lived in the middle of nowhere with just French TV you too would have a hell of a DVD collection.

Hey Pete, the usual reminder to the ageist young'uns. We're probably the last generation to get a pension, pay off the mortgage and enjoy petrol at a quid a litre. :D

Re: Change of life!!!!!!!

Well done. If you think you feel good now, give it a year or so and you'll probably feel even better. After we moved to France I reckon it still took another year or more to get rid of all the stored up baggage - anger, resentment etc. Much helped by discovering that the chief exec who'd contributed...

Bol d'Or?

Anyone planning to go to Bol d'Or, which is back at its spritual home of Paul Ricard in the sunny south of France? If so, and you fancy making a holiday of it, we're not so far away and would love to see some of you down here. Free (well maybe beer money :D ) accomodation and free guide to some of t...

Re: I've had a bike accident

Er, about that light. Actually got a 500 watt floodlight in the garage (it's a old barn), but the switch is in the house. So rather than turn it on, go down, open garage door, go back up, turn it off, I chose the lazy way. Result - hours of pain, weeks of disability, GP's bill, two trips to A&E ...

I've had a bike accident

So the other day I went to my GP about my dodgy knee, but happily it had improved in the couple of days since I rang him (yep 2 days typical for GP appointment here). Reckoning it might be time to get back on the bike I decided to check the battery condition and run it in the garage for a bit. Not w...

Re: Leather care

Getting back on track - there's an article in this month's Bike magazine about leathers. According to their expert most leathers are dyed, so any treatment doesn't actually get through to the leather. I dunno though, I use a leather food and my Alpinestars certainly seem more supple afterwards. Sham...

Airhawk

Anyone had experience of Airhawk seat cushion. Looking at this not just for numb elbow, but also to give another inch or so of legroom, as my knees are getting increasingly knackered. They're retailing at around £170, 8O which seems an awful lot of money for a cushion. Thinking maybe a camping cushi...
