Re: Early model gauge faces

Cool thanks for the reply guys Have a look through this thread http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32420&sid=04367a766cbc711208fc9675fa216f1a I used vinyl and due to the fiddly bits it needed printing. Best way is to scan the speedo face and import the image into Illustrator, ...

Early model gauge faces

Does anyone perhaps have high quality JPG or PNG images of even DXFs of the early Firestorm gauges. We have our own vinyl cutter so I would like to make my own custom faces (here in South Africa) for my bike with fonts and logos that I like. I want to experiment with a few different options too in t...

I went for a test ride tonight around the block and it felt great. The riding position felt a little weird because of getting used to the scooter. So, by Thursday or Friday I can give my wife's scooter back.

Dim/Bright switch stuck

Last time I used my bike when it broke down 2 to 3 months ago, I had the dim/bright switch on bright. Tonight, when I went for a test ride I couldn't get it to go back to dim. I also tried squirting a little oil in unsuccessful.

Any tips or advice?

Re: Bad misfire on rear cylinder

I take it you have checked valve clearances :?: Chris. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Chris. The motor fired up just like it should have in the first place. The two shims I got for the valves with no clearance are a touch too thin but the one I put on the exhaust valve will be right ...

Thanks for the confidence booster sirch. Chaz, I feel I did torque the head squarely. I used a criss-cross pattern as follows: Left Centre, Right Center, Left Rear, Right Front, Right Rear, Left Front. I also did this in three separate steps. I had all 4 valve guides replaced with the valves. There ...

I have checked and rechecked valve timing, first setting up the front then rotating to check the rear. I also checked in reverse with same results. Unfortunately in our currency (South African Rand) that 20 pounds relates to quite a bit of money. But yes, I agree with what your saying. What I...

Thanks for the reply.

The valves were lapped but I don't know how good a job was done.

Firstly I'll go with replacing the head gasket. I must humbly admit that I did re-use the old one. Could that cause such a bad leak?

No, I didn't check the valve clearances. Will do that later today.

Bad misfire on rear cylinder

I also posted this in the Bike Chat forumn but the Workshop is obviously better: I've got quite a frustrating problem now after I partially rebuilt my '98 Storm's motor. Some history first: About 2 months ago the rear CCT broke while I was on the freeway. As you can imagine it caused quite some dama...

My '98 is actually restricted. It's got some circuit inside the speedometer doing the work when I get to an indicated 190 kph. If I disconnect the speedo sender under the seat the I go way past that. The most I saw on a Sigma BC800 was 237 kph.

Brake disc specs, replacement and compatibility

I've also got this post in the workshop section but no replys. Please help! I've got some front brake disc questions for those who are very familiar with the 'Storm's brakes. 1. What is the thickness of a new disc? I know that minimum is 3.5mm 2. When replacing, is the complete unit including the 'c...

Is my clutch failing???

The last few days my 'Storm's clutch is making a light clunk sound while I release it. It's especially noticable at pull-away or at slow speed use. Also, this morning at pull-away after a hard stop, I had to try two or three times to pull away as the clutch just 'grabbed' but also with a squeeling t...

Well, in December last year I managed a 237 km/h on my Sigma BC800. At indicated 190km/h the Sigma shows about 176-178km/h. With that in mind the indicated would have been about 250km/h (156mph).
