My ride yesterday

Last April I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and had a series of stays in hospital for chemotherapy. Although I was in remission after the first month, I had a stem cell transplant in August to hopefully stop the return of the disease. The NHS was absolutely marvellous. In July I was quit...

Re: Bike for the Mrs

I fitted a Booster Plug to my other bike, the BMW 1200RT. I was amazed at the difference it made, especially low rev acceleration and the 500rpm flat spot. Mpg hasn't been adversely affected either.

Re: Royal Family - Yes or No?

If we didn't have a royal family we'd have a president - personally, the thought of a President Thatcher in the past would have been sickening, for some President Blair would be equally galling, not to mention the equivalent of President Trump or Putin.

Re: Engine Loses Power after 1.5 miles

Many moons ago, mine behaved like this and no-one could find the fault, until one day I started to take things apart systematically and the front plug cap/boot had a split in the rubber. Any moisture in the plug well, when warm, was "sucked" up the crack and then caused a track to earth an...

Re: Jerky feeling at 60mph

Having owned my VTR for 18 years, I can honestly say that I have never experienced the carb blowback etc. IMHO, if everything is standard and clean/synchronised etc then it will run perfectly smoothly at all revs. My idle speed is around 900, not the 1200 that some recommend as that is too high in t...

Re: Teeth...

It all depends on how good your teeth are. Mine are quite old now and I have a fierce peanut habit. I'm forever breaking them, losing fillings etc... For quite a few years now I've been paying into a dental plan with a fantastic local (private only) dentist. All the latest technology. If I have a p...

Europe - In or Out? thread from just before the referendum > https://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=38709 There was never any easy solution to pleasing folk in what is essentially a toss of a coin decision between 50/50 spilt of opinion. Europe is still saying we don't have to leav...

I agree mate. From that list though, this one amused me. Typically Daily Mail and I wonder if anyone actually believed it? Bit like believing the £350,000,000 a week for the NHS that philanthropist Johnson was going to procure.

Re: Triumph Daytona

I had one, back in the day. Metallic purple with open megaphone exhausts. I'd have it back like a shot, hoping that modern gaskets and goo could keep it oil tight :-) You have to rev them surprisingly hard. Had to sell mine as I started playing in a band and there was no room for a Marshall stack on...

Re: Dashboard update

For early models, ( like my 97 model) the best fuel gauge is to reset the odometer to 0 when you fill the tank. After this, in my case I have 160 km until the light turn on. Depending on your driving, etc this number may vary, but not too much. Exactly what I have done these last 18 years!

Re: truly awful vtr on the bay of evil

As Chris says, that sort of horror seems to be fashionable - loads on Instagram - some really good classic Beemers have been butchered. Crap tyres, no mudguards, plank for a seat - cool? Nah.
