Re: DIY Speedo Healer (electronics knowledge required)
I wrote it for the F88 as i already had this controller but should work ok on the F87 as the only difference is the A/D convertors which are not used. Anyway i am feeling generous and as its Christmas here is my source code :biggrin ; TMR2 is used as a way to detect when the rear wheel speed comes t...

Re: Engine rebuild
Ohhh i used to have that amount of play on a set of forged pistons, the piston slap when cold was loud but when warmed up and the pistons had expanded it was quiet as a mouse, apart from the 120dB exhaust!!

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
See if you know anyone who has a Fluke meter as some of these (and other makes) do have a peak voltage setting

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
The signal you are trying to read is actually an AC voltage hence the need for a peak voltage adapter, without one of these disregard any reading you get as its not accurate. If you want to make a Direct Voltage Adapter or Peak Voltage Adapter here is a simple circuit..... http://i34.servimg.com/u/f...

There is always this option http://www.ignitech.cz/english/aindex.htm
Does your meter have a peak voltage setting?

Re: Battery charging problem.... again
Those readings do sound correct, but to get a better idea you need to check it with lights on and then compare it with the engine running and lights on but you will need a clamp ammeter to do this, dont try it with your meter in series!!!

Sorry mate its built into the ICM and the tacho gets it signal from it.

Re: Current Leakage / Datatool Alarm?
Either the battery is U/S or the starter motor needs a good clean and check, remember a good voltage on the battery doesn't mean its good at supplying current!

Re: Anyone successfuly fit a SP cluster?
I had a look at doing this as well but couldnt find a SP dash cheap enough
The conclusion i came to was it would work just fine but you may need a signal convertor unit for the rev counter.

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Well yes the IPG *could* be the cause, if the wiring has got wet or broken somewhere the ICM could be picking up a ghost signal and counting the pulses twice, so instead of 175 pulses per second for 5,250 rpm its counting 350 and thinks the engine is at 10,500! An oscilloscope would confirm if the s...

Use the NEG lead as there is less chance of a short to frame and big bang!!

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Yes the ICM uses the IPG to tell it when to trigger the CDI and the TPS to tell it when to advance but both of these are passive components with no direct connection to the battery volts and therefore unlikely to have been affected when the reg blew. The tacho signal is nothing more than a duplicate...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
As a passive component then yes thats ok, fully open it should be about 5K ohms.
