Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Hi Gerrit! Having spent two whole weeks "chilling out" whilst the bike was with my mechanic (at not inconsiderable cost I might add), I can afford to do no more! I'm now missing out on work because I don't have a vehicle to get me there. After this week I have no back-up vehicle so it's looking like ...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Was up 'til late last night nailing on a pair of carbs (complete with tps) leant to me by my friendly breaker. Encouragingly, it fired straight up, and once it was warm I wound on some throttle..............it was almost exactly the same. I say 'almost' because with the original carbs the problems ...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Hi, yes the tank has been off, the carbs drained, and a separate fuel supply rigged up. It made no difference. The only encouraging sign so far is that with the tps unplugged, it ran exactly the same. Right now I'm looking at the possibility of the tps having been damaged when the rec/reg failed and ...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Interesting... Have just unplugged the switch and the bike runs exactly as it does with it plugged in. Have found the tps section in Haynes manual (page 5.6) and will now go and measure all the resistances as it advises. Everyone please cross your fingers/pray/etc !

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Thanks Phil, when you say 'workshop manual' I take it you don't mean the Haynes one (which I have)?

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Hi, have drained the carbs and even set up an independent fuel source. Made no difference. Am adamant that this is an electrical issue. Tell you what gents, I don't fancy another Honda after what this one has put me
through.
through.

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Hi Gerrit, hi again Benny, yes I've read Gerrit's thread and there are definitely similarities. Sadly, like Gerrit I've reached the stage where it's taken enough time, money and effort. Everything checks out ok from fuel to plugs to coils etc etc etc... I'm no quitter, but I know when I'm trying to ...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Hi all, yes have checked the vac connection to the tap and all appears to be good. I too get the feeling it'll be something simple somewhere, but can't see past the fact that whatever it is was probably caused by the reg/rec failing and tazering the elastic-trickery system.

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
I agree. For the bike to have run perfectly for thousands of miles and then suddenly run like crap the instant the rec/reg fails points overwhelmingly to electrics. I've just been out in the garage again (laptop now has oily keys!) and have spotted that at some point someone has spliced into the ...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
It is a shame, but having thrown a lot of money at it to no avail, I'm at the stage where it's "either sh*t or get off the pot" so to speak. I have to have transport so it can't just sit there as an ongoing project for me to tinker with. Bear in mind that a guy who earns his living from repairing ...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
I've read some of the 5k misfire posts, but my motor is misfiring well before then. In fact, I don't think it will quite pull 5k...and by the time it does get there it isn't 'holding' the rpm, it's 'fluttering' all over the place. As for the filter - it's been on there for 2k miles and has given no ...

Re: the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Thanks for the reply! The mechanic did all the electrical tests in front of me, so I know they've been done, and I've no reason to suspect that he didn't do the compression/leak tests. Oh and he liked the bike when he saw it - his opinion changed when, after 2 weeks, he coudn't get anywhere! Like ...

the end of my tether is in sight - won't rev
Hello all, I've not managed to find my exact situation covered elsewhere on this 'site, but if it has been please feel free to point me towards the correct thread. A month ago the rectifier/regulator let go on the motorway at high-ish rpm. The bike barely ran at all, limped a mile or so, then died ...
