Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Bugger. :(
I was hoping to use that money towards a lower fairing or polished rims with red spokes. Never mind. Well thanks for the help everyone, particularly benny, i'll hopefully post the results tomorrow when the new chain is fitted.

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Ok the FT Mark is deffo TDC. Looking at the guides they look smooth and fairly good, no visible damage down the middle of the guides and certainly no chain marks. New cam chain?

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

I can get both FE and FI mark to line up but unfortunately they only do when the slack is on non-tensioner side which doesnt work when the tensioner is tightened as the cams turn clockwise as the slack is taken out. With the slack on the tensioner side, that is the best I can get with either. Both m...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Ok ok, just took these pics. Done exactly what you said benny, so the first pic is that of the exhaust cam: http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/6061/1001119kf.jpg This pic is as close as I could get the FI to the cylinder head although its above: http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/2416/1001118l.jpg Thi...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Damn thought I might have cracked that then. I'll sort some pics out when I get home tomorrow from work, I guess around 7/7.30. They might not be great pics as Im too lazy to take the fairings off etc. If the marks dont show up well i'll photoshop them to highlight them. Yeah i'm gonna be sticking w...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

don't forget you want the chain quite slack in the middle, just not enough to jump a tooth. Thanks benny, Age old question, how much is slack? And just had a spark when you say putting tension on the non-CCT side when setting the timing. Mine line up when I keep the chain tension ON the CCT side by...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Thanks for the pic sirch, Mine kinda looks like that just on both cams but not quite as far out (ok neither was lined up quite right). I can only get the FI or FE mark above or below the top of the head by moving it one tooth as it doesnt seem out by much. Its about a tooth difference when looking a...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Thanks for that, never came across cms so thats another place to get bits from! Just checked the website of the Honda dealer I use and the prices are exactly the same as wemoto for the guides. Well hopefully they wont be needed but I shall find out Thursday when i'm off work.

Honda of Bournemouth

Just a quick recommendation of one of my better local dealers http://www.hondaofbournemouth.co.uk The website has a good parts section with nice diagrams of all the parts in the relevant sections along with the prices. Some of the prices are expensive, some arent too bad. They seem pretty clued up, ...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

if you are sure the back lines up fine then just do the front - you can always do the rear at a later date when you have the £ spare. just a thought - i picked up my lightened flywheel tonight so will have to fab up a tool to get the original one off so i can fit the modded one. if you like i'll l...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Right after studying whats required in more detail, i'm not sure i'll be able to afford to pay someone to change the cam chains. Anyone had them changed at a garage? How much did it cost? After looking at getting the required tools for the job, I see some people have used large bolts like M20's as r...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

Yeah 100% sure. With the FT mark lined up I can never get the marks on the inlet cam sprocket flush with the top of the cylinder head. If I get the FE mark on the exhaust cam sprocket lined up, which I can just about on FT, the FI on the inlet cam sprocket is either above or below the top of the hea...

Re: Familiar symptoms to anyone?

pretty sure you can just drop them over the bottom gear from down the tunnel - wait for someone to confirm as ive never done it on the storm That what I was hoping. Not sure if you can change the guides that way too though. Doesnt piston slap disappear when the engine warms? See my noise appears wh...
