Hi all can anyone help. this weekend I got round to putting new chain and sprockets on the VTR. Removed the front chain guard and fitted the front sprocket then replaced guard didn't touch anything on the clutch except the clutch lifter rod came out a short way with the clutch cylinder until I could...

yes thats wot my thoughts were, something else i was thinking is if the cam chain has jammed at bottom end off the crank, but ill find that out when i strip her down. typical i make cranks for a living too lol

with reference to checking valve clearence i didnt think it necceseray as i hadnt touched the valves at all on the strip down so thought all valves would have been operating correctly, may have been a bad oversite of mine.

thnx for advice, ill be stripping it at w/e sowill keep updated, dont think it will have bee the oil as it was new in and not been run in bike so omly option that way is if as u say pump wasnt working. ill update when i get to the crank lol cheers

ive had probs with engine , bolt sheered in exhaust , needed to remove head to have rebored, put head back on , didnt alter timing at all just reset as before, when bike was running seemed slightly out so checked timing, seemed a tooth out on front cams so altered and tried again. started fine but g...

guy at bike place in thorne told me to run it a bit as smoke might just be because it has been stood a bit , it was mainly coming off the exhaust so i did and it seems ok , but not runing right so im going to check if altering timing a tooth might make it better.

all i set with the timong was to the marks on the crank, didnt take the valves or anything out, just put back as i had taken off, ive run it and it doesnt seem too bad now, maybe a lot of the smoke just off exhaust , does sem a little off with the timing though so might need moving a tooth on the ca...

thing is i never did anything to the valves or anything, the bike ran ok before so i just re oved the lot in one lump and didnt alter anything, which is why i wasnt thinking of it being anything down that avenue.

timing

had to have engins stripped because of a sheered exhaust stud, all been built back up and set timing to manual, bike fired up but its getting very hot on the front exhaust, is this because timing not set accuratly . any tips much appreciated

no dont think its cracked on the weld, i can get it rpaired at work no probs it was just the problem of whether it would cause the cutting out. i think im going to have to strip her down and check for a bared wire or bad earth somewhere.
