As a teacher I chat to my kids and its a laugh to share the two wheels experience, but theyre just like us, the full range of careful riders in all the right day glo kid (bought by a terrified parent no doubt) to the near suicidal downright dangerous nutter!

I think this problem with the vibration has been there a while, but its definitely getting worse. Just had it up on the paddock stand to check a few things. There is no play in the wheel laterally. The wheel is on straight. I dont think the disk is warped. But when I turn the wheel by hand it does h...

Ok then, just read that last post properly But don't wait until it breaks to fix it: the last time my chain broke it bent by several millimiters the final shaft of the engine, the one the sprocket is mounted on 8O . Luckily this happened much time ago and not on the beloved FS... The advice Im getti...

A cautionary tale

I sold my old bike, part exchange through a well known high street bike shop, and parted with a wad of cash for a very shiny, one previous owner, shiny shiny red VTR. Call me fickle but I really was not thinking of my trusty, but knackered old ZZR600. In the shop, im itching to get my hands on the k...

Nice

Yeah, mine has done 29000 miles and still runs sweet.

Got a bit of vibration on the left foot though, dont think its the chain and it
can be quite wearing :?

Got a thread running to try to work it out, any ideas?

Im not really an expert but...

...those calipers look ok to me. If it was me id just give it all a good clean next time the pads were out. Its all pretty simple. But MESSY if you havent done it for a while. As far as the sprocket goes I had mine off for the first time the other week just to clean the chain (still on the bike). I ...

settings

When I got my bike from its one previous owner it was in great condition but he had the suspension wound so tight it fired my ass through my spine. And my street has about 15 speed humps. Took it back to standard and the bike rode much better. All I can think of is he was trying to get the bike to t...

Fitting braided brakes (front)

I used Goodridge SP1 hoses. Got a bit confused at first because the originals brake lines on the bike went first to one caliper with a short line that hops over the wheel to the other. Whereas the braided hoses are two cables, one going to each caliper, both bolted together with a longer bango bolt ...

I have been using Halfords cheap stuff but change it fairly regularly. Am I being bad?

Race cans

Put some Leo Vinci straight through race cans on mine. Made the bike feel a lot sharper, and the originals weigh a ton. Makes the bike sound like a V Twin should. My 1 year old daughter hears me coming home and is standing at the door when I open it, how cool is that. Braided brake hoses for the fro...

Makes sense

Yeah, I figured it made sense to change the chain. New tyres needed too. And a tune and balance is overdue.

As a general question, what things wear out on the VTR?
29000 miles on the clock.
Cam chains changed at 14000 miles.

Calipers

Hi Toby, front calipers on the VTR are pretty easy. I do it like this unscrew the pin cover (the pin goes through the back of the caliper and stops the pads falling out). I use a broad head screw driver. Mine always seem stuck so I attach a wrench to the screwdriver to get more torque and to try not...

thanks guys

Ok,,, Bombed it down to Brighton today, gorgeous afternoon of A24 fast sweepers. But there is definitely something not right there. At slow speeds I can feel it, a sort of rythmic rough spot. The chain has done about 10000 miles and Im sort of expecting to need to change it, but Ive lubed it up till...
