Re: Carb Tuning guide (setting up a Dynojet or Factory Pro kit)

Hi Folks, anyone following my story on the welcome board titled "New to Forum" will know that I'm trying to resurrect a gift of a VTR and get it on the road. All MOT'd now and stopper mod done with new CCT's fitted. All gone well other than a hesitation at light throttle openings which is ...

Re: New to Forum

Tool 1.jpg Had a good look at the carbs on the weekend. I have 48 pilot jets and they were screwed in to 1.5 and 1.75T. A fair bit more than the "Basic settings" as advised on the forum. The carbs were also a bit imbalanced so I rectified that. Took it for a run and still exactly the same...

Re: Insurance deals

Interesting Lee.

My cheapest quote was £144 but I spent extra to have recovery and clothing cover so I paid 240 for fully comp. I’ve found in the past that TPFT is usually only a few £cheaper than comp so False economy.

No more talk of pranging it. It’ll be fine but go steady.

Re: New to Forum

Right guys got a break in the weather for a first ride today. The Jury is out. I'm surprised at how the big twin has such a braking effect on the downshifts compared to a multi like the blade. Something you get used to I guess and account for with a slightly bigger throttle blip on the downshifts. S...

Re: New to Forum

So the bike past it’s MOT yesterday with just one advisory - the front brake lever is a little bent. Happy with that all things considered. If I keep it that will get changed but for now I’ve done a URI Gellar on it and it’s not too bad as a mirror image of the clutch. Just realised from the MOT mil...

Re: Alternative fix

Close! I Found a post by a David Greenwood back in April 2008. Says he has springs. Thing is I cannot pm him as I haven’t earned the right to pm yet. Given its 11 years ago he may no longer visit the forum. Could someone with pm rights give him a shout?

Alternative fix

So I’m new to the bike, just got it sorted for MOT and the next thing to scare the bejesus out of me is the risk of cam tensioner failure. This is well documented and I am erring toward the stopper mod as I don’t like the idea of not allowing for thermal expansion which the oem design compensates fo...

Insurance deals

Hi Guys, Sold my Fireblade (954) back in 2010 and now potentially back to biking with a Firestorm I inherited from my late brother in law - providing I like the bike once I've ridden it. I'm about to get it MOT'd this week after a bit of remedial work so time to think about insurance. Carole Nash wo...

Re: New to Forum

Hi All, update. Thanks to Mac I now have the OEM pipes back on the bike and I'm half way through replacing the indicators with OEM-esque ones from M&P. For anyone interested I bought a petcock repair kit off the internerd and it was rubbish. It simply would not seal. If you looked through one of...

Petcock woes

Hi Folks, After flooding my engine with fuel following the failure of the fuel strainer I discovered that after cleaning the tank out and replacing the strainer the petcock was still passing fuel. The valve rubber seat was all distorted. I bought a repair kit off the internerd and when it arrived th...

Re: New to Forum

Ok so i removed the carbs again to find only to find the front cylinder inlet tract full of fuel. Both valves closed I guess and fuel tight seal. Not the best way to test valve seats but... The rear cylinder inlet tract was also soaking though in this case the piston was holding back the fuel as the...

Re: New to Forum

So... I go outside to see if the nut that adjusts the choke stiction is able to be tightened only to find that my "new" bike is peeing petrol everywhere. It was fine earlier but has since decided to haemorrhage but not from an overflow pipe, it's coming from everywhere :?: I've chucked a t...

Re: New to Forum

So I got the bike back together. Checked oil, fluids etc today fired her up and threw my leg over for the first time in 9 years for a 50mtr round trip off road. "OMG this thing handles like a Jelly" I thought. Felt like it had flat tyres. brought it back to the pits and just as well as it ...

Re: New to Forum

So my assumption that the damaged cannwas on the same side as the tank damage was wrong, it is in fact the left can that is damaged. Whilst Mac goes to look at his left one for condition, does anyone else have one? I’ve noted the pair on eBay but I don’t really need a right one...
