On the storm in particular I cant imagine needing more grunt in first as like you say, it will happily chuck you off if you snapped the throttle. I thought the whole principle of dropping gearing was to give you a lower ratio in 1st? Therefore giving you even more drive in first....? With the argument of "just change down a gear" you can always just change up with a downsprocketed bike, im very rarely in sixth when out for a blast a...

-1 front wont equate to exactly +1 rear though will it given sprocket size difference?

From a gear ratio perspective though, ive always been lead to believe "down one on the front is equal to two up on the rear"

Is ally too soft to make a shock spacer?

Ive knocked up a couple of 3mm ones to start with, going to use 1 with a stainless washer over the top making a circa 4mm spacer in total

What would you consider essential mods on the storm and why?

I know we mention bits all over different posts buy id like to see people actually say WHY they believe something was worth changing

It seems front forks are one, but luckily mine were "rogered" a year before I bought the bike
