Re: Popping with choke on - Any cause for concern?

oil on 1 side of the engine, all over to the left etc. In theory yes, the surface of the oil laying in the sump will be at say a 10 - 15 ? degree angle Would that make any difference to the oil being pumped under pressure around the engine though? I don't know. But I take your point, irrespective o...

Re: Popping with choke on - Any cause for concern?

Thanks. Well, two things re. your post. First, I suppose I don't generally warm a engine up a LOT before starting off, though if I'm honest it depends on the conditions, and how well the bike is running, if the engine stalls due to being too cold, then you could easy end up toppling over as you lose...

Popping with choke on - Any cause for concern?

Just giving my VTR a few static warm ups now there's life again :) Also accepting that, a good run would be in order also, (if was road legal then that's what I'd do) However, just noticing something that was happening yesterday, and today, so thought I'd ask here for your thoughts. When starting fr...

Re: Temperature Gauge "Just" decided not to move?

Well done on locating the issue fella. Thanks.... Well, I got lucky that it was such a simple fix, and with the engine running I was pushing and pulling cables, and suddenly the needle jerked into movement, so I knew i'd found the culprit :) Nice when something that looks expensive and tr...

Re: Temperature Gauge "Just" decided not to move?

Ok, well, this seems to have foxed everyone here. Not 1 suggestion! Pretty rare! Anyhow, I'm pleased to report good news, I fixed it :) Just in case this happens to anyone else................ All it turned out to be thankfully was a poor connection with the single spade terminal on the left of the ...

Re: Temperature Gauge "Just" decided not to move?

Going to have a look later after work. No one got any ideas why my engine/water temp dial's needle has decided it's not going to move all of a sudden? Despite, as i said, that the fan did kick in and cool the engine and turn off again, so "the system" seems to work (if thats how you phrase...

Re: Temperature Gauge "Just" decided not to move?

Just to follow up. I think (not 100% sure) it did start to work when 1st fired bike up tonight. I then realised I'd not reconnected the fuel tank lead (fuel level light) connector, so connected that into the little bundle of connectors in the clear plastic shield just behind the tank. It was after t...

Temperature Gauge "Just" decided not to move?

I'll admit, not 100% sure on this....... ======== Short version of long explanation below ========= Temp gauge needle looks like it's decided to stop moving. However Fan still kicks in fine and cools engine correctly. Corrosion perhaps on terminals that drive this needle you think? Where do I need t...

Re: Does your MOT place balance the whole bike on the sidest

So you think as i'm not a high end dealer i bodge things, good job i'm too far to do your mot  Most mot places will do the same high end or not, they will have equipment to lift bikes but there is limited time to do an mot and the charge is often less than the hourly labour rate, what would y...

Re: Does your MOT place balance the whole bike on the sidest

Thanks again for all the interesting replies to my question. Seems i fuss and worry too much, as no one else seems to be worried! I suppose, i think.... Hey, it's 2015, with all the electronic hoists, equipment etc etc on offer, and you have a guy in a greasy garage swinging perhaps £10,000 worth of...

Re: Does your MOT place balance the whole bike on the sidest

Interesting replies. So my feelings of: 1: It's not meant to be done like that. 2: The stand point (tip) was not built strong enough to take the whole weight of the bike and may bend 3: The single joint/pivot where the stand connected to the frame was never made to be strong enough for that and coul...

Re: Does your MOT place balance the whole bike on the sidest

Thanks for the replies so far. I thought it may just be my garage. Obviously not. It just seems so amateurish. if I was MOTing bikes, I'd imagine for bike damage and general safety I'd wish to invest in some stand type of device (paddock ish) that just lifted a fraction off the ground, and not do th...

Does your MOT place balance the whole bike on the sidestand?

My small local garage does this, and whilst it apparently does no harm, I hate it, and am sure you are not supposed to do this, so would be interested in your thoughts, or what your MOT station does? When it comes to spinning the front and rear wheels, and also rocking the steering left and right to...

Thanks for the excellent explanations :)

Basically you are saying my Storm will now top 200 after my adjustment?
Well, I'm fine with that

Re: TPS Adjustment: Was 840 - Now 590 Can't get to 500 - No

Ha Ha... If you think I'm pulling all that off again to make finding the terminals a little easy for something that in reality is not going to make any difference anyway you've got another think coming! :biggrin And yes, I got the front hoses onto the front underside of the lower half of the airbox,...
