Re: My 127" big twin project (56k warning!)

Got the bars done, well I might narrow them by 80mm OA, but thats easy... Went to see Briz on Friday to get the tube bent, then back home to chop them up and weld together. Lots of fiddling to make sure the bars were exactly the same, measuring, checking and rechecking. In the end it took all day to...

Re: My 127" big twin project (56k warning!)

Mocked up some bars today, just to test out the idea. Need to get some proper tube bent up, but we have about 1 tonne (literally) of this white 1.25" tube laying about, so thought it was worth a test. The final bars will be 1.25" seamless... Going to lose about another 3" off the end ...

Re: My 127" big twin project (56k warning!)

Thanks Chris :) Kev - thanks! Costs are really what you want to spend. A one off hard tail frame would be around £800 or so, with softail and dyna etc being £1200 upwards. After that, if you were using a donor bike, then you could keep the costs down reasonably, especially if you were to use somet...

Re: My 127" big twin project (56k warning!)

Thanks guys :) Another update from today The fuel tank has finally arrived after 5 months.... Popped it on the frame and thanks fully it fitted pretty well...then came the puzzle of how to level and set it central with nothing to measure from other than curved surfaces. All good fun. Once I had it p...

Re: My 127" big twin project (56k warning!)

Got the rest of the bits made for the forward controls, and welded some of it together. Will be making the foot pegs tomorrow along with the pegs for the levers too. They will be aluminium, I think if I were doing it again I would have made the forwards themselves from aluminium as well. But there w...

Re: Serious (ish) fuel economy question

FWIW mine is on standard gearing and the odometer matches both my cars readings on the run to work :) Its interesting to see what other people are getting though. Mine is also a 19litre tank BTW. Normally I fill up when it drops to the last bar on the gauge which is reliably 120-125miles of commute ...

Serious (ish) fuel economy question

People always ask as the VTR seems to have a bad rep for fuel economy and tank range. Been out everyday for the last week on fun rides, twisty roads, up and down the gears, lots of traffic and overtaking. Used most of a tank of fuel every day. Filled up today. 156 miles and the reserve just started ...

Cush drive play

Quick and easy one....Should there be any play in the cush drive on the rear wheel?

Noticed there is a fair bit on mine when lubing the chain this afternoon. Probably move the sprocket back and forth about 3 or 4mm. Never noticed it on any other bikes....

Thanks :)

Re: Collecting my 'storm tomorrow!

My commute is mostly fast A-road and dual carriage way. So 60-80mph with a good few roundabouts thrown in too. :)

Re: Collecting my 'storm tomorrow!

Well I had to refill for the first time today.

120miles and 11.55 litres used. That works out to 47mpg according to my calculator, so its actually better than my SV was....

Normal riding for me on a 17mile (each way) commute. So cant be bad
