If there was room for two, is the gudgeon pin shorter than it should be- is one just a spacer?

I haven't come across a repairer for these but you should be able to find a secondhand set easily enough.

If you can read the resistor, you can simply solder one on as a bridge for the blown one. Of course, if the fault still exists, you might blow the replacement, too.

The only other part of the circuit is the earth lead, so check that there's no corrosion where it mounts to the rear of the engine.
