Re: Rear of Tank Attachment
There should be 2 of those top hats that fit under the rubbers on the Front mount of the tank, they fall out easy and disappear under the airbox if your not careful. Thanks Kat, I have the ones for the front. Like your description (Top hat), very apt. The top hat that is in the picture is larger th...

Re: Rear of Tank Attachment
Thanks for the reply.
Is the metal shouldered sleeve in the picture above part of the setup or is that a ring-in part.
I don't have any rubber parts in my setup.
Thanks

Rear of Tank Attachment
Can anyone tell me what the parts are that hold the rear of the fuel tank on. I have a bolt and nut plus one sleeve type attachment. Is that all there should be? Or are there rubber cushion parts that should be fitted in this area. Pic of what I have. http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd105/donclif...

Re: Installing new starter motor
It nearly always pays to go genuine, especially with things like "O" rings where there is not much difference in the price.
For me I will never use any gasket sets for engine rebuilds that are not genuine. Especially head gaskets, etc.

Re: petrol
No engine mods and 91 is fine - it's what the book says to use!

Mike, the wording refers to front carb, but arrow points to rear carb. No quality control back then, or maybe the proof reader was off sick that day. haha

Re: Fuel Tank Leak Mystery -- help needed
To recall this thread after a bit of a lapse. After having had a look at the photos again I am thinking maybe the leak is from the fuel tap (or whatever it is called) in front of the area moistened by the petrol residue. It looks like the petrol could be weeping from the diaphragm joint of the fuel ...

Re: Attachment Points on Rear Cowling & Tail Light
I am thinking that now I have filled the hole with JB Weld I will do as you did. Drill and tap the hole and either fit a 5mm stud of fit a 5mm screw to hold it in place. The tail light does seem to have some wobble in it when mounted. This would prevent that. The wobble in the tail light is a good ...

Re: Attachment Points on Rear Cowling & Tail Light
That is not an attachment point (light assembly has only two) That pin just locates the angle of the light. On the other hand, I drilled it out, epoxied in a brass threaded insert and use that as a third attachment point. I use a M6 stud in the light housing and triple nuts as "adjusters"...

Re: New Firestorm Article in Two Wheels Magazine
All good discussion. Thanks.
And a learning experience for me.
BTW on the 16 Bike Comparison Test the VTR came out on TOP. It was a good article.

Attachment Points on Rear Cowling & Tail Light
I am refitting the rear cowling and was wondering how many attachment points it has. I know there are 2 x 6mm screws at the front of the cowling adjacent to the fuel tank. There are another two up underneath about halfway back which are press in body cover clips. There are 2 x 5mm screws in from the...

Re: New Firestorm Article in Two Wheels Magazine
Thanks Carl for the reply, I take your point about copyright. I didn't really think that through. A couple of the articles are from 1997, so 18 or so years old and I'm not sure about the others, but certainly not recent as the Storm production ceased in 2006 - 9 years ago. I do agree that it's not w...

Re: Are All Rear Mudguards the Same?
I thought it may have been but was not sure as on my model the seat lock is under the guard just above the rear tire. Thats been modded by the PO then as its the same on the the later bikes as std. OH!! Thanks for that. I was just coming to that realisation as I had read both of the Owner's Handboo...
