Re: 1997 Rebuild gone bad
Not wishing to throw a spanner in the works of Tony's reply, but when you did the compression test was the engine turning over at the right speed then? If not then you would get a low reading. Have you fitted manual cam chain tensioners? Chris. Fair point, Chris, it could make a difference. Best re...

Re: 1997 Rebuild gone bad
The only other part of the circuit is the earth lead, so check that there's no corrosion where it mounts to the rear of the engine. Given your low compression and the improvement with oil in the bores it seems very likely that you need a rebore, new pistons and rings. That's not a big deal, and is e...

Re: Servicing Ohlins electronic forks
Part 4- refilling the oil and reassembling the leg Refilling the oil: For my bike the oil level was 181mm from the top of the upper tube, with the leg compressed but the spring and preload tube removed. Check what's required for your model; it might be different. Slightly overfill with oil- mine nee...

Re: Servicing Ohlins electronic forks
Part 3: strip down The top of each fork has the electrical connector- they are apparently fragile, so be careful how you disconnect them. Push the small tab in and pull the connector off. Now check (and record) how many rings are showing above the top yoke! After that, unwind the preload nut (you wi...

Re: Servicing Ohlins electronic forks
Part 2: I'm going to assume that you have taken forks apart before, and you have a general toolkit and some mechanical knowledge. My Ohlins forks are model number FL9350. All of the following applies to these forks, and I haven't stripped any other Ohlins forks, so I don't know what differences ther...

Servicing Ohlins electronic forks
I have an Aprilia Tuono with semi automatic forks. Ohlins make a range of these; they're fitted to quite a lot of new bikes now, notably Ducati, KTM, Yamaha and quite a few more. The forks work like normal (right way up) or upside-down ones but the damping (compression and rebound) is controlled by ...

Why not?
I still hang around in here even though I last had a Firestorm ages ago.
But I can still contribute, and, hopefully, help Storm owners.

Maidstone Motoliner- Kent. Recommended!
As part of my front end refresh on the forks, calipers and brakes on my Tuono, I checked the runout on my Brembo discs. One was slightly out. The other was quite a bit out, and it had been noticeable when braking for a while. I had been riding round it. But as I was refreshing the whole front end I ...

I've taken the photos, Chris, I'm waiting until it's back on the road before I write up a "how-to" to make sure it all works as it should.

Re: Your future post ICE death.
I think we're heading towards an upscaled Scalextric solution, where the cars "drive" along charging/powering tracks on longer journeys, otherwise it makes no sense for anything except urban, local journeys to the out-of-town shopping malls. But it's interesting to see that some manufactur...
