Never done them before on a Firestorm, cant be different from any other bike or honda i suppose.

As Barry has said, have you checked the Regulator/Rectifier first? If not, you could loose another battery. Had the same problem with the Reg/Rec, 2nd time on a Honda now! Is there anywhere i can find out what vin numbers correspond to year of manufacture, colour codes etc?

Seems i have a late registered 98 model on a 99 plate.
1998 VTR1000FW on a T Reg.
