Some links come in as HTTPS in emails

Post by KermitLeFrog »

But most don't. The HTTPS links are broken but deleting the "S" makes the link work. Any ideas?

The question being why are some https and most http?

The S is a secure connection not open to man in the middle (sniffing) attacks between A and B. Think of it like rather than travelling down the motorway where there are loads of camera's spying on you that your instead taking the back roads.

HTTP or HTTPS links should still work, rather odd you have to remove the "S" for it to work.

This forum now has the "S" included in the URL as below, making it as Carl points out more secure:-

I've not seen the forum as https. Is it definitely a secure site?
Edit
Just tried and both http and https versions are available. Could be that whatever servers the forum is on aren't all set up right.

Probably need a setting adjusted somewhere to force http to https to make it consistent.

I've seen this as well, the problem is that the link specifies port 80, whereas https uses port 443, which is why it isn't working. http uses port 80 which is why it works. you can remove either the s or the :80 to get it to work.

I believe it only affects recently subscribed threads, but I cannot confirm that.
