Operation Storm II - Thunder in Wales - 17th-19th Sept 2010

Post by geodude »

After the great success of OP Storm I, here is an idea for the next one.

I haven't yet got clearance from the wife, as I don't think she is over the 1000 miles I did the weekend just gone. I'll see how it goes over the next few weeks and then ask :)

I thought I'd put this up and let it grow.

So the suggestion is this.

Friday night: Ride up (or across, or down) and meet at a camp site somewhere near Newtown
Saturday: Ride out making lots of noise perhaps around Snowdonia.
Sunday: Head home
UPDATE

Operation Storm II

Date: 17th - 19th September 2010
Place: http://www.wyesidecamping.co.uk

Itinerary

Friday: Ride up (or across, or down) and meet at a camp site
Saturday: Ride out making lots of noise perhaps around Snowdonia.
Sunday: Head home

Suggested route for ride out: http://tinyurl.com/OperationStorm2010ii

UPDATE 2

1. Just phoned the camp site and they have plenty of room.
2. Make sure you bring something to put under your side stand as you will be parking your bike on grass.
3. As prompted by AMCQ46  , please send me your mobile number via PM I will put a list together and send it out, with mine, to all who send me theirs. I wouldn't recommend posting it in a public forum.
4. Saturday will be the main day for the ride out. I have a map and a sat nav (with no way of charging it once the battery runs out)
5. Let me know if you want a structured day and route or prefer to play it by ear.
6. Other locals are more than welcome to take on the important task of showing us the best roads. (or non-locals who frequent Wales regularly)
7. There may well be a second run on Sunday led by MJonesy :) Let us know if you are up for it.
8. There is a Texaco petrol station less than a mile away from the camp site*
9. There are 5 pubs within 0.5 miles from the camp site.*
10. There are 4 take-aways within 0.5 miles from the camp site*

Can't think of anything else. Feel free to add to it. Oh wait, If you are planning on camping, its probably best not to forget your tent.

*This information is according to google.

2 more sleeps peeps!!

Note: For those that are worried about pace and stuff, ride your own ride :)

Was sorry not to make Op Storm having really enjoyed the mini gathering in South Wales coupla weeks ago. Just to throw into the mix, I'm near Betws-y-coed and can offer a free venue - lovely camping spot with a short stagger to the very fine pub. Only too happy to show folks the pick of the local roads. But - can't do it that weekend - sorry! Previous & following weekends are good, if thats any use - without wanting to hijack your dates, Geo :) - the offer's there.

Many thanks for your fine offer Nelly. I have added a poll to get a consensus for the best date.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Can't do w/e of the 11th, organising a sponsored trudge in Folkestone for work.

Later the better for me, as I'm not a wimp and can camp it up even when it's a bit chilly.

Beer is the best antifreeze!

(although did a rally one year called the Brass Monkeys, 1st w/e in Jan and put the tent up in snow, couldn't sleep the whole w/e.
Too cold.

When we pulled the tent down there was still 6" of compacted snow underneath....)
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I have just sent an email to this place http://www.wyesidecamping.co.uk asking if they are biker friendly.

It is bang in the middle of Wales.

190 miles from mine (Portsmouth)
451 miles from Aberdeen
315 miles from Glasgow
215 miles from Middlesbrough
216 miles from Hull
260 miles from Newcastle
121 miles from Manchester
150 miles from Nottingham
202 miles from Central London
264 miles from Ashford, Kent
203 miles from Plymouth

If they are happy, let me know what you think.
