So I blame Al for this but I have just registered to get a road bike on the cycle to work scheme. This means I'll be getting some road miles in this year :)

I should be getting it sometime towards the end of Feb hopefully :D

I will not become a MAMIL though. 8O

Here are the events I have signed up to this year. Let me know if you are up for any of them

MTB - Wiggle Super Series South Downs Epic MTB 2015 Standard - Sunday 21st Jun 2015
Jul - Nothing yet

Well as its the new year I have decided its time to get in shape so I have got my giant advanced sl carbon road bike hooked up to the turbo trainer to start before getting out on the road when the better weather comes
If I can stick with it I might be up for a few challenges later in the year but need to lose a good stone in weight first lol

Weather! I went out on my roadbike yesterday in the sunny 10c and again today in the piss wet rain with floods and 3c. Can't keep upsides with it :confused

But my expensive carbon bike is tucked up in the garage and the old giant is decked out in mudguards and WD40

Ok so I have found a new motivation after having influenza over Christmas and a chest infection two weeks ago.

What's helped is a new toy. I managed to pick up a Garmin Edge 1000 with Heart rate, cadence and speed sensors. Love it. Been out on both MTB and Road cycle and the stats you get back are great.

Now my health has started to improve, I can start seriously thinking more about getting a new motorbike :D

I'm saving for a road and as i don't want to pay the full price i was thinking of trying to get some money back on the ride to work scheme which i think only works if the bike costs less than £1000
the bike is £2000 can anyone shed any light on this as i'm having mixed reports
Is it worth the hassle
thanks macdee

Yes, it's a max of £1000. Some bike shops allow you to pay some pennies up front.

Just get a Giant Defy 0 or GT Grade 105 (if you want to get dirty on it occasionally.) Both great value bikes and within the scheme threshold.

Don't worry about going full carbon unless you have £2500-3k

As some of the fellow cyclists on here are not on Facebook, I thought I'd give an update on the past few weeks events.

So I have been working really hard on the cycling this year. I've cycled over 2000 miles which is more than any previous year and I've been working towards doing a number of events including the Ride 100 London and the 75 mile off-road ride from London to Brighton (L2B)

As some of you may remember, I didn't manage to complete L2B last year as I was knocked out by pneumonia. I was well pissed off.

On Sunday 6th Sept, I set off to play in the local annual volleyball tournament, another event I love to take part in and missed last year due to Pneumonia. Started off the first game. Got thrashed in the first set. We just started the second set and boom! I dislocate my knee!! 8O "Oh ffs" I thought whilst laying on the floor waiting for the ambulance to show up. . "I'm going to miss L2B"..... "oh sh1t, it's Op Storm next week and I'll miss that too!! Ahhhhh!!!!!!

The ambulance turned up and whilst the paramedics were transferring me to the trolley, my knee popped in. Along with the gas and air, which was awesome  , there was instant relief. 20 minutes later, I was up walking around again. It was very sore and I needed a mate to drive my car home for me. I dislocated it before and it had to be strapped up for 6 weeks followed by a few months of physio.

I went to see a sports injury specialist and had two sessions of dry needling (acupuncture of sorts), ultra-sound, massage and taping up. 6 days later I spent two days cycling up mountains in Wales.

I had another two sessions with the specialist and the Sunday just gone (20th) I completed a 43 mile ride around the New Forest and came 19th out of 334 riders. That was 2 hours 27 minutes non-stop with a 17.6 mph average. Well happy with that!!!

I am amazed at the resilience of the human body and that with the right treatment, how quickly you can bounce back.

This Saturday (26th) I will be taking part in the L2B!! Wish me luck :)
