Making your own top yoke

How possible do you think it would be to make that kinda thing yourself?

Part of the course im on for work requires me to design/cad and make a project of my own so im wondering about having a go at making a custom top yoke as it would actually serve a purpose too.
It obviously wouldnt really be me using the machinery solely as im only at the basic level using lathes/milling machines etc


Do you think someone whos skilled with a milling machine etc could make one? If so im sure i could get one made up at college and save myself a fair few quid in so

Mark here has the skills to do that and more, so with the right materials and skill I don't see why you couldn't do a top yoke. Take a look here at Marks beautiful work:-

You'd need to do some precise measurements - it'd be a bonus if you had to hand to copy to avoid much trial & error.

I think that's a perfect little project for some coursework... and certainly worth a go.

Im going to ask monday if its do-able and if so, its time to get measuring

Shame i dont have some sort of engineers drawing for it as that would be perfect

Make one up for yourself.
You can calculate the fork centres by measuring between the inside edges of the forks, then adding one fork width.
Now work out the stem offset by placing a flat edge against the back of the fork legs and measuring the distance between that and the nearest edge of the stem.
Add half the stem diameter, and make sure it's centred between the forks.

You can measure the hole diameters easily enough.

Then get milling!

Well I asked today and was told that seeing as we're so far ahead with our work that I can make myself the bar conversion at some point

now just need to size it up properly and see what material to make it from

Here are some basic dimensions for you, accept the apologies for the screen glare as I just took a pic of the PC.

I know it's my yoke but it gives you an idea of the dimensions you need

You can decide on your limits and fits with your tutor for the fork tubes etc.

They are non structural holes to loose a bit of weight and be more decorative.
