Just be careful of open flames and don't smoke while your drinking it.

Re: moonshine
Now where's that video youtube vid Seb posted a few years back on how to make crude oil and refine it into petrol. Fantastic it was. That was like a distillery, well I suppose it was a distillery accept it was oil. U shall have to have a search through the forum for it because it is well worth a watch.
I found it. Watch the vid in the following thread, it's fantastic and well worth a watch.

I watched an interesting video on the making of Scotch Whiskey. They said that before the distilled spirits are placed in oak casks to age, it is clear. The wood gives the whiskey its disincentive color. As I understand it the clear liquid is like moonshine.

Re: moonshine
Talking about Oak casks I had some real ale that was brewed in old whisky oak casks and that was very nice indeed. I could taste the whisky in the ale. That was when I was last up in Scotland.
Moonshine is becoming popular amongst the homeless polish and other eastern Eu immigrants over here. The problem is though, with what they are making is so strong that it is mighty dangerous. I think they are using Potatoes. It was on a news/docu programme and the communities are now setting up, slums, for want of a better word, in allotments.

Re: moonshine
It was an essential applied project chemistry students got up to at poly in halls - student folk donated potato peelings and dodgy homebrew wine and got distilled spirits back in return. The resulting cocktails (too strong to drink neat) made the Young Ones even more of a giggle, and cleaned my paint brushes a treat while studying fine art painting.

Next and last time I saw it being produced was in Sri Lanka (following the cricket) in the backwoods as a collage industry turning out the local hooch. One for one chap Rodger (Reformed football hooligan turned barmy army) made his holiday more of an adventure - when as it was his birthday a group of us went out on a daytrip and he swigged back the good part of a bottle and on his return to the hotel promptly fell into the swimming pool awkwardly (yet somewhat relaxed) breaking his leg. Last I heard was he had to stay in hospital for a few weeks extra to heal and got the sack from work when he didn't return in time...

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: moonshine
Back in the late nineties Phil McCallum gave me two bottles of Moonshine,
one made from Rye and the other from potatoes as a thank you. The gift was much appreciated until the day after the night we drank half of one of the bottles. Best of Luck with your quest!!
