A real character RIP Sir Stirling.
Used by a multitude of police officers to chastise speeding motorists until the arrival of Barry Sheene.

I met him once. As a small child we were travelling en famille on the British Air Ferries from Lydd to Le Touquet with the car in the hold of the plane. You really did that sort of thing in those days. I tried to chat with this man in the seat behind me as he looked absolutely terrified. I was finally persuaded to leave him alone. Back in the car on the other side my father explained that he was Stirling Moss and he was much more fearless in a car!

I felt genuinely saddened on hearing this news.

A great, great driver and a real Gentleman.
Insufferable halfwit.

Although I knew who he was and held him in the ‘legend’ category, I didn’t really know much about him until now.
He was more than just a racer
