I got a silver vtr a couple of months ago, what a great bike, loads of fun
over 6000 rpm. just back from Le Mans, the bike cut out a couple of times at high speed and picked up again before it came to a halt on the hard shoulder. can anyone help with what could be wrong as i have to keep having to wash my underpants, thanks

I've been hit by a bad missfire due to either over filling the tank and/or dodgy fuel before but never the engine fully cutting out. 8O

Think i'd be inclined to go through the wiring harness checking the plugs, etc. Then maybe the ignition/coil wiring. :?:
Welcome by the way ! :D

Love Chinatown in Manchester !!!! :D :D

Hi stu glad your pleased with your bike, great choice...re the cutting out has it happened again since? I was at Le Mans, got pi--ed wet thru once or twice and my immobiliser played up on the return journey (the embarassment of pushing my bike on the ferry) been fine since. Could be your electrics were damp... Anyway all the best with the storm CHEERS

Hi Big Stu
:D Welcome Aboard :D
I know 3 common problems with cutting out at speed.
The first is a vapor lock caused by the petrol cap not letting air into the tank.
Second. Check your vacuum hoses for splits/good seals.
Third. This one only happens after doing higher speeds and then throtling off. A sticking carb slide.

Happy hunting

water in the fuel? was it pissing down?

Mine very ocaisionally gets the vapour lock after refuelling thing, I think I've probably tried to get too much fuel in, the only other time it cut out was a faulty spark plug.

The original reg/rectifier boiled the battery once as well but they almost count as a service item unless you buy a finned reg/rec.

Welcome aboard Big Stu :!: :D

Cutting out at high rev's then picking up again at lower rev's does sound like a fuel problem to me, rather than an electrical problem, but unfortunately fuel and electrical problems often give very similar symptoms.
How many miles has it done and when was it last serviced, plugs and air filter etc

Chris.
