Gday!

Post by vtralex »

Hi everyone, I'm Alex and I recently purchased a 2001 Vtr1000 Firestorm! This is my first v-twin and my first 'big' bike. Before this I had a BMW 650 Dakar. I'm mostly interested in older bikes, there's a 72' CZ 175 Trail and an 82' Honda FT500 floating around the shed (in pieces of course) and my old boy has a few classics that we get out on most of the time. Always had a thing for the VTR1000 so when one came up at the right price, it would've been rude not to get it.

Bike is pretty well standard apart from Staintune mufflers (sounds amazing) and braided lines front/rear.

Got it at the right time, its spring here in South Oz and the weather is perfect.

When I picked it up

Absolutely loving it so far!!

Welcome to the club mate. Looks like its got the stock CCT's on it, have a read up and do something about them. Manuals or stopper mod. And don't forget to check the reg/rec has been swapped for a later finned version or a mosfet. Just a couple of relatively simple fixes take all the worry away and make riding the Storm a more relaxed affair.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I'll be doing the stopper mod in the coming weeks for peace of mind, havent checked the rr yet.

I can understand a different colour would be nice as it gets tiring dodging the hundreds of women who throw themselves at you because you're on a red bike

As for the FT, starter has been rebuilt :D I think as long as you keep maintenance up they're pretty reliable!

Hi,

I just landed myself a big red one recently but unlike you I am a gumby and can't seem to work out how to post a pic. Co-incidentally I can't see your pics either but i was able to see Cadbury's shiny red beast. Mine has the reg/rec changed, has had a complete rebuild but has stock CCT's reinstalled. When I become a bit less technologically encumbered I'll post a pic or two, so maybe in ten years..
Maybe swearing will help
