Ducati 750ss First time project

Post by Flatline »

This is my first bike project

Image

It on a j plate, done 14k and works

Started by taking out the engine, cleaning it, stripping old paint off and respraying it satin black

Image

Thinking of making it into a cafe racer as its nice and simple and the bike's already the right shape I think

New headlight and seat unit

Going to use some interesting colours though

Thoughts?

nice project, I always liked the SS family...................what about making it look like the retro Paul Smart replica that is out now, or an update on the Mike Hailwood replica

Something like the second one down:

Or a flat tracker style like this:

A MHR should look like this Image

the 1st one in the link looks like the paul Smart replica, but it should be silver I thought.
like this Image

The 2nd one on the piston heads looks like a good option for your bike spec, and will make a good street racer.

Right then

Spent the afternoon stripping the ducati to allow me to start work on the frame and wheels

Managed to get my daughter to help!

Image

Now all I have is a box of bits :wtf: Not much there

Image

Next job is to prepare the frame and wheels for painting. Not going to bother with powder coating

The current paintwork is decent enough to make a good base

quite fancied one of the air cooled 900sl's meself... local shop doing them brand new for change out of 5k,
you get the brembos & ohlins so it's got to be worth it just for that!
only about 80 horse but great handling bike by all accounts

Went to collect the frame, swingarm and wheels yesterday. Spent an hour watching them do the work, they had already stripped and blasted the items

Have used code 3020 for the red

Wheels stripped and ready

Never had powdercoating done before, jumping round like a kid at christmas as the items came through the oven :Mexican Wave:

As this is my first project I decided to stick to simple colours to see how it turns out

Have used a scaffold pole through both ends of the office/workshop to allow me to support the bikes when working on them
