I'll throw in a little contribution if you don't mind...

When I wrecked my front wheel I had the devil's own job finding another, all the blade owners were buying up all the 17" VTR front wheels or something!

So I went and looked at a Blackbird front, guess what... Fits! The discs swap straight over. Just use the spacers and axle from the VTR. I measured and compared everything I could, and as far as I could tell it is the same casting.

Unfortunately I don't know the year of the Blackbird donor, it was just a collection of bits by the time I got to it.

I've grown to rather like my gloss black front wheel.

Is the B-Bird a 3 or 6 spoke?

I thought it was handy to know a front wheel from a Honda Blackbird will fit our Firestorms, so I've just had a quick look on the Ron Ayres site for cross reference checking part numbers.

As far as I can see there appears to be a difference in part numbers (to be precise the thee letters in the part number code, they are different). I'm not saying it won't fit (as tankslappa has already confirmed a Blackbird front wheel will), but there must be something slightly different about the two wheels.

Paint colour?

I had the original (rather damaged) silver wheel side by side with the B-Bird wheel... I got the callipers (as in measuring, not brakes) out and measured everything I could. Everything was the same bar the paint finish.

More importantly, the discs mount on the holes, the original axle and spacers all fit, and it does the going round and round thing between the forks :D

Maybe it's tested to a higher spec for the heavier and faster bike? or made of badgers or something? I dunno.

I'll weigh it when I'm having the tyres changes and hopefully one of your guys can do the same with a standard front.

I just went to have a look in Haynes, but they don't mention disc o/d sizes.

However on checking in Ebay I've just seen that Vara (XL1000) calipers are three-pot, rather than the two of a Storm.
Wonder if there's an upgrade opportunity?

Oddly, though, the RH caliper has larger bores than the LH one- because they fitted with the linked brakes- so probably not useful.

Ah well.... :sad2
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Well after minuites of searching I have found the Varadero disc size...

296mm. So I guess they may well fit.

Old thread I know, but just to sort out any confusion about what discs what fits what bike/wheels  .

VTR 1000F Discs.

•Thickness: 4.5mm (0.17’’)
•Outer: 29.6cm (11.6’’)
•Inner: 5.8cm (2.3’’)
•Distance of screws: 3.7cm (1.46’’)

Compatible for Honda:
•CB 600 HORNET 2000-2006
•VFR 750 F 1994-1997
•CBR 600 F3 1995-1998
•CBR 900 RR 94-97
•VTR 1000 F FIRESTORM/SUPERHAWK 1997-2006
•CB 250 HORNET 1996-now
•RS 125 R 1991-2005
•RS 250 R 1990-1997
•TSR 250 1999-NOW

•CBR400R NC23 1986-1987

•VFR 400 R (NC30) 1989-1992
•CB 400N 1982-1988

Image

Just to stop any confusion about the Varadero discs, they will not fit the VTR.

The bikes that use Varadero fitting are-

•Thickness: 5mm
•Outer: 29.6cm (11.6")
•Inner: 6.2cm(2.4")

Compatible for Honda:
•CBR 600 F4 99-00
•VFR 800 VTEC INERCEPTOR 1998-2009
•CBR 900 RR 92-93
•XL1000V Varadero 1999-2007
