Ahh ok, they do look good but in that case I'll class it as a chance purchase should something cheap appear

old post but fantastic info, thanks.
just looking today to find a second hand pair of front brake rotors as mine are warped.
so hopefully rotor discs from any of the bikes in the first list should fit my vtr1000f..
i will be sure to double check anyhow..

Are you sure they are warped? Sometimes it's just the bobbins that are stuck. They can be loosened up easily.

I've checked them since posting that and the thickness is still good (around 4.15mm).
the bobbins have no movement at all.
im not used to bike with 'floating' discs so am unsure how much movement there should be?
that would be the best way of trying to free them?
thanks..

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Put a bolt through each bobbin, tighten a nut on the other side then rotate while spraying with brake cleaner.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Wot he said. There is a spring washing incorporated so even when they are free they don't spin freely. You should notice a big difference though.

thanks for tip, and to Tony.
ill give that ago tomorrow along with setting the TPS and a dozen other small jobs..
out of interest how would a seized bobbin result in a 'untrue' disc?
are they designed to allow a small amount of play at right angles to the wheel?
sorry for my naivety , as i say I'm used to old stuff with solid discs..

I'm not an expert but my analysis would be that they have two main functions.

1. As the disk changes temperature it's not constrained laterally and can expand and contract radially without being stressed laterally by the mount.

2. It's allowed to move laterally by a small amount and thus self-centre itself as it runs through the pads.

Very happy to be corrected on this.

Had a play with the bobbins yesterday along with loads of other little jobs.
They were really stiff and most made a cracking noise when they freed up.
Gave them all a good spin in both directions and sprayed a load of cleaner on them but they are still pretty tight- some more than others. I cannot turn them with my fingers.
I'm wondering why they are so tight, I though the would loosen with age, maybe there's just still a lot of 'dirt' in there that needs to come out.
any ideas?.

Great idea, I have a cordless and socket adaptor. Is the the best thing to help flush it out break cleaner?
Thanks.

The CBR1100 Blackbird wheel is the same but only the pre injection model that's up to 1998. The hub dimensions changed after this (don't know why) but the width of the hub is differ ant as is the Somerset of the disc centre holes.....
